Open floor plan dining room/hall design delimma

Quick background…we used to have a fish tank on the blank wall with the white bookshelf and blue art. Thankfully it’s gone! My stepdaughter will be moving out within a few months, so my office will go back to her bedroom and I can finish out the dining room properly. Attached are

some pics of the foyer, which I love (art over the table is temporary) and the perspective from the front door into the house, and from the back towards the front so you can see just how open it is. I just don’t know what to do with that space where the tank used to be. I would be happy painting it an accent color, I love books and don’t have much room for decorations, so I thought one or two book shelves would fit there with maybe a small chaise or reading chair and ottoman? I think the space for the dining room would accommodate a slightly smaller table, no bigger than 7’. The measurements are in the Design Ideas attachment, along with two sketches of possible layouts. The art that’s silver/gold/gray/blue accents is one of my favorites and the rug were both bought recently and were very intentional purchases. I like a very neutral palette with a blue accent. any ideas are welcome! and yes, the deer head has to stay (for now)

I find the spaces quite a mish mash of design style so maybe tell us eactly what you are hoping for. I do not like the wall with the bookcase and lonelt piece of art hung too high

The second drawing looks like a possibility. Measure the space exactly and draw the room on graph paper where each square represents either a foot or six inches. Add a drawing of a table in a size you're hoping to use. Do you have a table already? Remember you should have a minimum of three feet behind each chair for people to be able to pull out the chairs to sit. I'm not sure if you will have room for a bar until you draw everything more precisely. If you already have the table, put it in the room and see how you feel about the space. You don't want to create an obstacle in the path of the door to the garage as it's likely this is used a lot.

It depends. I'd prefer one good sized dining area than two smaller ones. When you say this house has a small kitchen, this is what I'm thinking. I owned a house for a few years that had a kitchen nook for a small round table, and a "formal" dining room that was too small to hold my dining table, 6 chairs, and china cabinet (we had to store the leaves and extra chairs). The china cabinet was in the living room and the table stuck out so that the chandelier was not centered. If it's a smaller house, then opening it up a bit would probably be an advantage.

try and post a few from diff areas so we can get an overall look. post the name and a good shot of the wall color. and post any pics that the new flooring will transition to the flooring you want to keep. that way we can see what we have to match.

Looks good. I think the rugs have some of the same colors so for now they should be OK. I would center the sectional on the window, pull it a little bit away from the window. pull the rug towards the TV so that arm is on the rug. I would do roman shades on the window.

I feel like this is a family room type look. But you can use as dining room if that works better for you Many will ask for more pictures and a floor plan. So if you can post those. But I guess to answer your question, if you do end up using this as a dining room: There’s not much room for much so a rug, table, chairs, maybe a bench on one side, what’s your style? Maybe wallpaper on the walls.

I believe the " the wall with the bookcase and lonelt piece of art hung too high " is OP's dilemma, having recently removed a fish tank.

Agree drawings with measurements will help figure if a table can work in.
