Help! Minor Fireplace facelift decision.
Comments (7)If you really want to add a mantelpiece, I like the Covington best for your room. But I think what your fireplace really needs is art -- a simple, elegant image that will speak to your simple, elgant cabinets. Please keep them! Long-term yes, I just think the painted brick is too rustic for the high finish of the cabinets and the floor, and refacing it would be a fine project when the piggy bank is full again....See Morefireplace facelift
Comments (6)Nothing wrong with the style of your rustic fireplace. I'll bet it fits the style of your home. The problem is all the random stuff around it. The fireplace wall is a feature in the room and needs to be grounded and the items above it cannot be light in color. Try something more like this. Find a new place for the skulls and family photos, but not together....See MoreFireplace facelift
Comments (10)Don't touch it! I'm house shopping and I think I'd sign on the spot for that fireplace! More seriously, are you keeping the wood wall and the paint color on the adjacent wall? The wood wall has a lot of visual interest in it already, so if that stays, I'd vote to make the fireplace a place for the eye to rest. Are those kitchen cabinets? That actually leads to a whole score of questions for me. If the kitchen is open to this space, keep those in mind too. I've seen so many houses where someone has just updated the kitchen with white cabinets and gray counter tops, and the living room has either warm wood or warm brick on the wall, and the flooring throughout is a light blond. Those houses are immediately crossed off my list because unifying the space would be a huge project....See MoreFacelift on fireplace
Comments (60)I would suggest you start by painting all your walls a warm white such as Benjamin Moore Simply white including the wood paneling wall (see my previous suggestion above) and the window trim in white also. Just that will make a major improvement to your room. Once that's done, you can decide on what to do with your fireplace, either your paint it, white wash it, or leave as is. If you like the result leaving the fireplace and ceiling as is, perhaps you can spend on a new LVP flooring in the same tone as your ceiling. That should leave you some budget for a new lighting fixture or new modern fan and a nice area rug would also be nice. Can't remember in all the exchanges if you have the furniture for this room, only remember the black leather armchair. And, I had suggested a storage/play area so that it will be easy for you to keep your new room tidy. Good luck with your decisions!...See Morela_la Girl
