Design Dilemma entry Exterior

edit: dont bother commenting if you have unwanted input about the house! i only asked for feedback on the front door. you can all keep your other comments to yourselves. needed a large garage as i have a lot of cars. the downstairs ceilings are 12 ft and its only a bonus room and 1 bedroom up ceilings 9ft. the picture doesnt do it justice as its generated and i just wanted feedback on the DOORS.

wanting a pivot door in the home we’re building but fear it may be a bit much. any suggestions for something similar or should i just go with a standard double glass door? would prefer the entrance to be somewhat of a statement. for reference

Pivot doors lean very modern, which your house is not, especially if using the same design components. From afar, how a door opens doesn't make a statement. Consider the home’s style and what best complements it and also think about the effect in the foyer.

No to the pivot. Just double door, glass. I hope the climate is dry as hell.That's a roof line inviting disasters : ) and you will need an umbrella at the entry stoop if not.

A statement entry..........rather difficult when buried/recessed between garage mass and another room. Might be a statement inside, won't be from the exterior.

In your choice of exterior materials and colors, work hard at de-emphasizing the garage doors and the multiple rooflines. No choice of entry doors can compete if those features as as dominant as they are in photo.

One thing I've seen on this forum over the years is that people love all manner of less-than-desirable things. I don't think good design is based on "loving something" unless that thing can be proven as "good" relative to other possible solutions. While some of these things are difficult to categorize, when they are finally sorted out via trial and error, it demonstrates their value. Do tutus really fit as the better solution? I think the problem with them usually boils down to scale.

People have storm doors because, they open doors and pull down the screen for air. A storm door has a security lock on it, for safety. Phantom screens are wrecked by children and pets go right through them and can escape your property and end lost or worse. I personally, would never ever be without storm doors on my house. I have very nice wood doors, and they are original to the house and still in excellent condition because they were protected with storm doors.

I am assuming you want to simply get a couple of chairs and a small table out in from and recommend you consider a small raised paver patio to extend from your front door out a bit from your home. It would look like this below except without the firepit I don't think adding more roof to one with so low a pitch is even an option

No pivot door on this home not appropraiate at all.There are many bigger issues than the door with this house IMO

I think that your current double doors make the entrance way look tighter than it is. Perhaps an optical illusion? In would go with a single door, like the one Maureen posted, above, with sidelites. So the focus on your walkway is a centered door that aligns directly with the walkway. Pretty stonework on the entrance!

Yes, a single door with sidelights will be great. And that style gives you a ton of options.

Many of us have different exterior and interior colors on our doors since we want the outside to complement the structure and the inside to complement the interior decor. Tons of well made, pre-hung fiberglass doors out there.

I do like something with more light filtering through, as @Maureen posted. Your house seems private enough for that kind of door and it usually does wonders to whatever entryway you have. Whether you choose wood or fiberglass is up to you, but you can guess which is lower maintenance.

We also have 12 ft ceilings and did a custom single wood door with side lights. The whole unit is 8 ft wide x 10 ft tall and the door itself is 42" wide x 10 ft. tall. The door couldn't be built any wider due to hurricane/impact ratings in my area.

I would try to find better looking Garage doors too. We designed our garage doors and front doors to have a 2x4 pattern to keep a consistent look/pattern.
