Anyone who takes Nexium or the alike on the regular...

Have you found that you are able to taper to taking it every other day or every 2 days etc?

I've done one round for like 6 weeks and when I had gone back to the drs for a follow up, i had been off for a couple weeks and was feeling fine at that point and she was happy I was off...but right after that I starting feeling like I needed it again. Got back on and have take if for 21 days...now on day 3 without, only becuase I ran out, but should I try to stay off until I start feeling like I need it again or get it and maybe try taking it every 2 days to see if I can maintain like that?

I know, if need be, I'll go back to the dr and see what she recommends but wondering what others who take it on the regular has found what works for them.

I think taking it as little as possible is likely best. My understanding is that it is not good for your bone density. I try to get by with the occasional Tums or Rolaid. But constantly having reflux or heartburn is also bad.

I wouldn't take PPIs because of the side effects, especially used over the long term. (See, eg, https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/proton-pump-inhibitors). I took famotidine and sucralfate. I eventually was able to taper off first the latter and then the former. I now only take the famotidine on rare occasions. But much depends on what your issues are and why you take them. I'd talk to a gastro doc to get a handle on your diagnosis and best treatments.

Can't clarify, Alexa. Sorry. I only "know" what I see in my garden. Frances Williams has lots of seeds every year, the chipmunks, birds and deer miss a few. I will see tiny seedlings the first year, larger the second year. The big jump comes the next year. Some get a little bigger than others, in almost the same location. Perhaps there is a faint wax haze, but not very noticeable to me. They really look green the first 2 years, especially the first year. On the other hand, I've bought a lot of small/young blue hostas online. They definitely look blue to me right away, although they do get bluer in time. I don't know how old the plants that I buy from growers or nurseries are. All I am saying, is people should give them a try in an out-of the-way spot, and ignore them except for watering and slug protection the first 2 years. If they are green the third year, and of no interest, compost them if you choose. No money spent, no money lost. (I have some seeds to share, if anyone wants them). ~Bunnycat

You mean the regular american cherries (like bing)??? Those are not related to the Suriname cherry as far as I know. The word cherry is very confusing. See this link for the surinam cherry. Thanks for the great suggestions. Not Stained Glass or Gold Standard for sure. Really looks like Paul's Glory, but for the life of me I can't remember getting one. I have a PG in my front yard but it's in heavy sun, so looks completely different. Anyone else think it might be Paradigm? I did get a nice size Paradigm last year but thought I lost it over winter. I could of moved it to this location and not remember....that happens more and more lately...LOL

Need a nap in the daytime can certainly be a symptom of a sleep disorder. It can also be a "symptom" of old age and less activity. I don't know anyone my age who doesn't say that they often fall asleep at night during the regular Primetime TV shows. Some do have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine, but they still doze off. Others take naps due to health issues that cause fatigue. My late mother had Lupus and had always turned up her nose a her sister who took a daily nap; she found she herself truly had to do so. Some people find a short nap is an energizer, the "executive power nap". There are as many reasons as there are people. Yes, if one sleeps well during the night and feels exhausted the next morning, a sleep study done by a specialist is in order. If one falls asleep early and then wakes up and has insomnia for hours, this should be checked. If one regularly has a drink or two before dinner or wine/beer with a meal and falls asleep afterwards, blame the alcohol and cut back or cut it out altogether. My late FIL had two rum and tonics for decades, each night before dinner. When he reached his mid-80's, he had no trouble going to sleep (and actually went up pretty early) but would awaken in the night and lie awake for hours. His doctor told him to cut back to ONE rum & tonic before bedtime, but he was a stubborn old cuz and said he'd done the same thing for 60 years and was not changing. Oh well... A bit of "sleeping over a good book" or dozing off while watching TV is usually nothing morbid that requires any treatment.

My Mom had acid reflux and esophageal spasms. Her doctor prescribed just 10 mg famotidine (Pepcid), one in the morning and one at night. (the 10mg meant I couldn't buy them at Costco, their generic are 20mg) A gastroenterologist had suggested Prilosec and her PC changed it immediately, felt the famotidine would be easier on kidneys - and she already had osteoporosis, did not need another risk there. Aren't Nexium and Prilosec the same chemical makeup - omeprazole?

The famotidine worked and stopped the heart burn and spasms (that she'd had for years).

I take one only occasionally so I can't speak to the continued use other than knowing it worked for my Mom without side effects showing up in regular blood testing.

I can't decide whether Nexium helps or hurts me. I take it occasionally too. I don't have typical acid reflux symptoms, so I don't take them continually. I know some medications work for some people and others don't, but if the famotidine works for her I would stick with that. Famotidine is not a PPI like Prilosec or Nexium.

I had taken Prilosec for years. When COVID hit, I read about one small study that found a correlation between PPI use and an increased severity of COVID symptoms so I decided to see if I could wean myself off Prilosec.

I succeeded but it was not easy. I went through 3 weeks of misery sleeping upright in a recliner. I restored my gut health with Kombucha and yogurt with probiotics. Even now after almost 3 years of being off Prilosec, I still have to be careful what I consume. If I cheat too much then I have to take Prilosec for a few days.
