Anyone who takes Nexium or the alike on the regular...

Have you found that you are able to taper to taking it every other day or every 2 days etc?

I've done one round for like 6 weeks and when I had gone back to the drs for a follow up, i had been off for a couple weeks and was feeling fine at that point and she was happy I was off...but right after that I starting feeling like I needed it again. Got back on and have take if for 21 days...now on day 3 without, only becuase I ran out, but should I try to stay off until I start feeling like I need it again or get it and maybe try taking it every 2 days to see if I can maintain like that?

I know, if need be, I'll go back to the dr and see what she recommends but wondering what others who take it on the regular has found what works for them.

I think taking it as little as possible is likely best. My understanding is that it is not good for your bone density. I try to get by with the occasional Tums or Rolaid. But constantly having reflux or heartburn is also bad.

I wouldn't take PPIs because of the side effects, especially used over the long term. (See, eg, https://www.health.harvard.edu/newsletter_article/proton-pump-inhibitors). I took famotidine and sucralfate. I eventually was able to taper off first the latter and then the former. I now only take the famotidine on rare occasions. But much depends on what your issues are and why you take them. I'd talk to a gastro doc to get a handle on your diagnosis and best treatments.

Can't clarify, Alexa. Sorry. I only "know" what I see in my garden. Frances Williams has lots of seeds every year, the chipmunks, birds and deer miss a few. I will see tiny seedlings the first year, larger the second year. The big jump comes the next year. Some get a little bigger than others, in almost the same location. Perhaps there is a faint wax haze, but not very noticeable to me. They really look green the first 2 years, especially the first year. On the other hand, I've bought a lot of small/young blue hostas online. They definitely look blue to me right away, although they do get bluer in time. I don't know how old the plants that I buy from growers or nurseries are. All I am saying, is people should give them a try in an out-of the-way spot, and ignore them except for watering and slug protection the first 2 years. If they are green the third year, and of no interest, compost them if you choose. No money spent, no money lost. (I have some seeds to share, if anyone wants them). ~Bunnycat

We are getting a GE AG Cafe range ($2500) and I would have been perfectly happy with a GE or Frigidaire slide-in ($1600), but DH is "splurging" on the Cafe. We want a panel-ready DW, so that's going to be about ~$1000, but it will probably be a KitchenAid or something. We are looking at a few different standard depth SxS frigs in the $1500-$1800 range, all very ordinary. We are leaving shelf space for a GE convection MW ($500), but may make do with our $120 Sharp for awhile longer. Our Faber Cristal hood ($550) is Italian (ooh-la-la) so I'm not sure if that's regular or not, but fairly inexpensive. Altogether that's about 6K - less if we can make some smart buys - and I can't say I feel like I'm doing without. All you have to do is look at the Sears flyer every week to see what most people can afford. DH and I briefly toyed with the idea of a Lacanche range because they're so darn beautiful. The more we talked about what else we could do with that $$$ (mostly outfit the kids gameroom that is part of this addition), the less attractive the Lacanche looked to us. We also would have felt a little silly, because we're really just "regular" cooks. Our friends who are "good" cooks all manage on ranges less expensive than the Cafe. If we really step up the cooking when we retire 20 years from now, we may revisit that beautiful Lacanche though.

Whatever else you do, you absolutely need to cut out bread, dairy products (that includes cheese), grains (cereals--five bites at most) and all sorts of soft drinks (that includes tea). Limit your food intake to eighty (80) bites a date, and not more than about fifteen (15) at one time. What a bite? What you can comfortably put on a fork or a tablespoon--and I do not mean a heaping tablespoon. Eat apple sauce. No sugar, no sugar! Don't drink more than a few zips with each meal, if you need to drink at all to feel comfortable. Stay away from foods that expand when mixed with liquids. Beef and pork are a no-no. I never have more than two or three bites in a day, and most of the time none at all. I don't smoke or drink alcohol, so I cannot speak to these. Lots of veggies are good. Avoid fried and sautÃÂ©ed. Baked, broiled, steamed or boiled are find. And if you like some sort of meat, seafood. And let me repeat again: no more than around 15 bites per meal.

Well something tells me World Market will be even less comfortable chairs than West Elm. There are some others I found with a similar look but who knows how comfortable these are, and they're online so I'm not sure how you'd test them out. It's proving to be quite difficult finding the color you're after. I found some in lighter shades, but the ones that are the most similar to the style you're after come in either vibrant colors or darker neutrals. My Mom had acid reflux and esophageal spasms. Her doctor prescribed just 10 mg famotidine (Pepcid), one in the morning and one at night. (the 10mg meant I couldn't buy them at Costco, their generic are 20mg) A gastroenterologist had suggested Prilosec and her PC changed it immediately, felt the famotidine would be easier on kidneys - and she already had osteoporosis, did not need another risk there. Aren't Nexium and Prilosec the same chemical makeup - omeprazole?

The famotidine worked and stopped the heart burn and spasms (that she'd had for years).

I take one only occasionally so I can't speak to the continued use other than knowing it worked for my Mom without side effects showing up in regular blood testing.

I can't decide whether Nexium helps or hurts me. I take it occasionally too. I don't have typical acid reflux symptoms, so I don't take them continually. I know some medications work for some people and others don't, but if the famotidine works for her I would stick with that. Famotidine is not a PPI like Prilosec or Nexium.

I had taken Prilosec for years. When COVID hit, I read about one small study that found a correlation between PPI use and an increased severity of COVID symptoms so I decided to see if I could wean myself off Prilosec.

I succeeded but it was not easy. I went through 3 weeks of misery sleeping upright in a recliner. I restored my gut health with Kombucha and yogurt with probiotics. Even now after almost 3 years of being off Prilosec, I still have to be careful what I consume. If I cheat too much then I have to take Prilosec for a few days.
