newbie here...am I ready to start?
Comments (2)1) nothing 2) that will be difficult as it is late to order seeds so they are all swamped and running behind. Depends on the varieties you want. Local stores will be the fastest source. 3) no thermometer is required for any reason> See the How do I get started FAQ here Heat may is automatic and both dome and heat mat are removed just as soon as several of the seeds break the soil surface. 4) as soon as any break the soil surface, yes. So many just turn the lights on from the beginning. 5) another light? probably which is why the 4' lights are recommended. there are several current discussions here on lights - pics and all - as well as 2 FAQs on lights. How much room will it take? No way to know that. Depends on the number of plants and what you transplant them into. Hardening off is not normally done with just germinated seedlings. That's an easy way to kill them quickly. Hardening off begins a week to 10 days before transplanting to the garden. Please do check out all the FAQs here as they do cover all the basic questions and then some. These same questions come up weekly here so there are many advantages to having the FAQs so available. Comments (4)Hi sheshebop! I'm new myself! Welcome. My best friend has a nearly full shade yard and she created a rock garden with a pond in the center. She has tons of hosta, sweet william, peonies and spiderwort in her yard. Many of these around the stone patio and rock garden. You are plenty creative enough for gardening. It's easy after time. Plant what you think will look nice after finding out if they are hardy to the coldest temperature that you live in. Put taller plants to the back of the beds you create and graduate down in height toward the front. After the plants take off, decide if you like them where they are, if not, then move them somewhere else. We all do this. Gardening is trial and error just like making a new recipe! Here is a few links to some online nurseries that offer suggestions on shadey perennials. Take a look and see if anything looks nice to you! http://www.ruthsgardenshop.com/Shade%20Perennials.htm http://www.4seasonsgc.com/main%20files/pages/perennials/shade.html http://garden.superpageshosting.com/shadeloving/ This next site not only has ideas for plants but also design plans for your beds too. If you look further down the page you will find a link to rock gardens as well. http://www.wilsonbrosnursery.com/DesignsPerennialShadeGardens.html Good Luck and let us know what you do!...See Morewanted: wanted: newbie needs help to get started

I went to our local nurseries but was unable to find it. 1) Nyctanthes arbor-tristis (Night-flowering Jasmine) also known as Parijaat in India. 2) Fragrant Roses. 3) night blooming jasmine (I bought a couple of plants from our local nursery but they do not have any fragrance to them) 4) Any other strong fragrant trees or fruit trees you may have. Please email me. I have indian basil seeds and saplings, zinnia, bachelor button seeds to offer. Best Regards, Abby...See MoreHi i am a newbie and have started a bed of Hosta.
Comments (2)You have a nice start to your bed! Sorry, but I can't help with the ID. Many look so much alike. If you post pictures when they are a little bigger, or even when they are blooming someone might be able to give you some help. Often it is almost impossible to ID them until they are a couple of years old. At that time they begin to take on more distinct characteristics....See MoreGandolfslayer
