3 cm vs 2 cm quartzite countertop question?

Ricki Frankel

We (finally) have decided on Taj Mahal quartzite for our countertops. Everything we have read, and some advice we have gotten, is that the slab+fabrication costs end up being similar, because of the way the 2cm is edged, etc. Also, that 3cm is more likely to be on kitchen countertops, and the 2 cm in bathrooms, backsplashes and other vertical applications.

We prefer the look of the 3 cm.

Our designer/project manager is insisting that 2 cm is standard for kitchen countertops, and that the 3 cm will be 30% more expensive for the fabrication alone. Insisting. Adamantly.

Can anyone advise on this? I read the discussions on line. Is there any reason not to go with the 3cm width that we are not aware of?

She is also quoting us 30% more for slabs+fabrication than Home Depot. Being consumers who are doing the best we can, we find ourselves not trusting her advice.

Thank you in advance.
