Hydroponic Hops
Comments (63)I plan on all three. The latter will take some extra time and funding, though. I am currently deciding whether to use Aeroponics or Hydroponics for it. I have heard that Aero is slightly better but Hydro is more reliable. I live in Chicago so if there's a power outage like the ones from the Tornadoes the other day, then I don't want the plants to die. Aeroponics is often very hard to assemble individual parts into a well-working system, and the individual parts can be expensive as well. Also, the fine-spray emitters will instantly clog if you try to use anything except high quality hydroponic fertilizers (no organics). Of all the hydroponics growing systems, this is the most difficult to master and the most tempermental. Ph changes and nutrient imbalances occur more quickly because of the increased absorbtion rates and high levels of oxygenation. Furthermore, with no grow media to protect the roots, the plants react negatively to these changes much more quickly....See Morecan you 'transplant' spanish moss???
Comments (91)Thanks for the great suggestion dottie! With the amount of rain we've been having lately, there is no shortage. I collect it in plastic milk cartons (gallon size) for specific indoor plants that are more sensitive, such as my various 'ground' mosses (cap moss, rock moss, etc.) I am trying to grow 'regular' moss as much as I can in the yard. I'm even pulling the grass out of my larger moss patches. I'll never be able to fully convert our lawn completely over to moss, as we have too much sun. Yet, where it wants to grow, it's encouraged! Moss is a natural "Lightning bug Nursery" and there aren't as many as I remembered when I was younger. They are so sensitive to pollution and we may eventually loose them. I feel for those who never saw lightning bugs! It's not summer without them! When kids collect them and put them in jars, then tell their mom to "poke holes in the lid so they can breathe," that's what KILLS them! They need a humid environment, so add wet grass and keep the lid on tight, then release them in the morning! ....and I ran off on a tangent....again ;)...See MoreHellbender Bin Update
Comments (19)buckstarchaser, my particular screen reader is Window Eyes by GW Micro, which uses an audio voice to relay information to me regarding what's on the screen (I'm not an accomplished braille reader beyond knowing and sometimes using the very basic alphabet). And when programmers don't label their graphics with text, the screen reader can't identify them. You can learn a bit more about that at this link. Due to my current version becoming what I consider more complicated and less reliable (perhaps because I haven't kept up with the changes in technology), I recently bought a MacBook because I got an iPhone 4S last year and was amazed by how accessible it is. So I'm still in the process of learning how to navigate the net with Apple's VoiceOver technology. And the only "tactile" output I'm aware of when it comes to screen readers is the use of a braille display,, which optionally translates the text I hear to braille. Hope that answers your question and thanks for expressing an interest. :) BB in FL...See MoreWhat have you been *Late to the party* for?
Comments (55)Used to be an early adopter on most things, including tech and fashion (lived in NYC as a single person), but have turned into a luddite slug wrt anything but a few areas. pesky, you're behind the times with a big-screen that doesn't hang on the wall? LOL we still have our 1993 27" Toshiba CRT tv as our only one! We periodically shop for a larger new tv but we just can't seem to get rid of this one since it still works. Would be a shame to waste it. We figure when it dies, we'll get whatever is best (within our price range) then, as we did back in 1993. Don't think the new item will last as long, though :( -- that's what ticks us off about buying new technology these days. Funny thing: I got a DroidX the day it came out (replacing years of free craigslist phones). I was looking at it one day recently at the gas station, trying to navigate my little corner of it, and the gas station attendant came up excitedly -- he'd just gotten a DroidX the day before and had it *completely* customized -- he'd downloaded wallpaper, put tons of music on it, had each home page completely arranged and connected the way he wanted it...his excitement at encountering a fellow Droid owner turned to disgust when he saw that I use *one* home page and only the very basics there......See MoreRelated Professionals
