I do appreciate all the input, if this thread isn't too far down to still get read. I understand that my soil isn't ideal, but it wasn't entirely from not doing my reading first. I use it because I wanted to avoid multiple transplanting steps and have a good source of nutrients, essentially, and it seemed to work last year just fine (topping off 2/3 filled containers with more soil mixture as the seedlings grow). The main difference between this year and last has been the light source, and I am using 6500K "daylight" bulbs. I know pics would be ideal, but most of the tomato seedlings look....withered a little bit, so to speak. The soil is slightly moist, but by no means wet, and I water about 2/3 of a shot glass per cup (think classic, small, styrofoam cup with holes poked in it in the bottom and sides) every 2-3 days. If it help at all, vs some of the late germinating seedlings, the older ones appear slightly yellow-green in color, although not to the extent of pictures of over-watered seedlings I've found online. Thanks if anyone has any further input.

Also older than ... and glad to be above rather than under the ... dirt. Anyone remember 78 mm. ... no, that was r.p.m. ... records? And the needle being on a circular disk that one lifted off of the record and put up, over and back to be held in place above the arm that swung back and forth over the record but didn't move up or down? Our "Party line" phone was a big brown wooden box on the wall with a metal thing like a tulip sticking out of the front into which you talked, and a line with a black tube on the end that hung on a yoke sticking out of the side of the phone, that lifted when you took the receiver off to listen, which connected the phone to the line, by making the contacts with the large batteries inside. If you wanted to call some other person on your line, after listening to see whether the line was busy, you turned a crank on the right side to make the double bells on the front of the phone ring, in a code of short and long rings, which rang in everyone else's phone on the line, and the ones whose code it was answered ... sometimes others did, as well (almost always remaining silent while doing so). If you wanted to call someone on another party line, you pushed a black button on the left side of the phone and turned the aforementioned crank on the right side, which silenced all of the bells on your line and sent a signal to the operator on the central switchboard and she connected you to the other line and pushed a button or turned a crank to ring the code of the person to whom you wanted to talk. ole joyfuelled ... who liked eating at the dining room table ... in the large kitchen

The medium is peat moss (zero nutrients). The lights are mounted to a scrap of plywood suspended 1-2 inches above the tops of the seedlings. And it may look like I have the tray wrapped in plastic, but it's just a barrier to keep the cats from snacking or walking over the tray. The seeds sprouted from about 3/5 to 3/16 (peppers a little slower). The natural light that they do get is shaded a little from the mounting board right now. Only the row closest to the slider gets any real sunlight for now, and those seedlings are leaning ever so slightly toward the artificial light. I'm starting to think the cotyledons are sunburned from the water left on the leaves after misting. I'm just worried that the true leaves won't grow before the cotyledons have dried up...the first true leaves were poking up maybe 2mm last night. I keep tricking myself into thinking these are older than they really are (24days). I was quite satisfied with my results until I saw the slightly browned cotyledons last night. I'll have to take a pic of the "burned" leaves tonight...the OP pic is from about a week ago, and I guess misleading. I'll be back home in a few hours... the spots weren't there last night, so maybe these got too wet for a few days? It's hard to take a pic of such small leaves! These are the San Marzanos...one is a faded green. I'm hoping the true leaves will grow FAST!

It is along the property line, and the main leader got damaged, I cut it down, and these 4 are here now. You can see why I asked about slow growth, the original trunk was not too much taller than the 4 that sprung up, it was about 4 ft at it's tallest. I'll try what you said Bama, and see what happens.
