Pics of Unknowns-Can you help identify?
Comments (5)Thank you for your guesses. I checked out Rudbeckia and many of the pics look like what I have. The FAQ's for the Rudbeckia seed saving helps a great deal. My sister insists that the plants are being seeded by birds but whatever did it, I'm grateful. Your guess on the Amaranthus looks to be what I have growing in there. Can't figure that one out as to how it got there but will do some searches/google for seed saving. Many thanks for clearing up the mystery. Comments (5)Thank you for the comments so far - I'll be checking out the weephole situation again to see if those were possibly covered up. I received a comment from a friend too who suggested to just spray water at the side of the house for a while and see if water enters the basement (possibly taking the windows out of the equation for now). I'll do that in the spring as well. I've actually done that before, but it was pre-caulk (where I caulked the red line). This is the first time I've seen water in the basement since then, so I had assumed (obviously incorrectly) that the caulk corrected the issue....See MoreCan you help identify this fertilizer?
Comments (18)"I fertilize with each watering because my brain isn't good enough to remember when I did or did not fertilize. So it's just easier for me." In case you'd prefer not to fertilize at every watering, all you need is a bag of marbles, a handfull of buttons or bottlecaps, etc., to keep track of what gets fertilized when. The main reason we fertilize is because intentionally flushing the grow medium when we water washes nutrients out of the medium, the price we pay for the habit of flushing which ensures the o/a level of fertilizer salts in the grow medium doesn't gradually creep upward to dangerous levels, and, so the ratio of nutrients in the soil solution doesn't become seriously skewed from the ratio at which the plants actually use those nutrients. For the reason I just cited, it makes more sense to tie the frequency of fertilizer applications to the number of times we water. Example: If plant A gets watered twice per month and plant B gets watered 6 times per month, they obviously won't actually need fertilizing at the same intervals. fertilizing every 3rd watering when plants are robust and every 4th watering when they are just chillin' and waiting for a reason to push is about right. So, drop a marble, button, other item of choice in the pot when you water. When you're about to drop the 3rd item in the pot, you know it's time to fertilize; so, instead of dropping the 3rd item into the pot, fertilize and pick up the 2 items already in the pot and start the cycle over. Comments (3)A guess...B.M. Sea Foam Definitely a mix of blue and green. An aside comment about the house you posted, I love the color, but not on that house. it looks like a small hotel. Not loving the contrast underlying green against the blue sky. Maybe a blue with a gray cast would look better? B.M. Gentle Gray B.M. Blue Lace...See MoreSusie .
