Marvin Sliding Glass Doors - Pine vs. Fir Interior
Comments (1)Are you going to paint or stain them? We bought fir doors, and ours are stained. I think they look nicer than stained pine would have. Fir is also a denser more stable wood, but I'm not sure if/how that affects their long-term performance....See MoreMarvin Sliding Glass Door - Pine vs. Fir Interior
Comments (3)Awwww, Tedi0555, I was all set to choose the Pine. I am going to be painting the wood, and my installer (who's been installing Marvin for 20 years) said essentially the same as what Eastbay10 wrote above. Furthermore, the salesman for the Marvin sliding french door also told me pine would be the better choice if I am painting, and I know he stands to make less commission if I don't get the upgrade to fir! My installer and the salesman agreed that fir, as you said, is more durable and stable. However, they both said it would likely take 12-15 years for those differences from pine to become apparent. I figured that I don't know where I'll be 12-15 years from now; maybe in this house, maybe not. So I think I'll go with the pine. Anyone else want to convince me one way or the other? I am pulling the trigger on this order on Monday....See MoreWindow coverings....sliding glass door and windows??? I need your help
Comments (6)I would look at white plantation shutters for the windows and a Vertiglide on the slider since you use it every day. I would then either add a cornice over the Vertiglide or some drapery side panels. Now if you have young children I am going to change my Vertiglide recommendation to a vertical. I know no one like verticals but if you have sticky little hands, you want to be able to clean the blind easily! When they have grown to the point where you don't have to worry about that anymore, then you can move to a Vertiglide or something else. Here are some links to a blog you may want to look at for ideas. https://dressthatwindow.com/beauty-of-shutters/ https://dressthatwindow.com/i-hate-verticals-what-else-is-there-for-sliding-glass-doors/ https://dressthatwindow.com/drapery-side-panels-complete-the-look/ Not a perfect example but just trying to give you a sample of the combination of shutters, a Vertiglide and a cornice board. You can really dress up the windows on that back wall to look great! Good Luck!...See MoreTreatment for windows next to sliding glass door
Comments (3)You really have three different windows to dress. Have you considered roman shades for the two smaller? Use identical fabric but different applications. For the slider I would have the panels open only to the right so you could have one half of the window/door covered no matter if it is open or closed and then stack would never get in the way of the opening. I can see how one long rod would work just fine here. You will need supports a few places through the middle...See MoreKelvin Andrade
