A single pane of safety glass is expensive. I see you have phots of windows with outline panes, good idea so no one runs into the glass. Agree with contacting a glass company who make glass shower enclosures.

just to verify, you want operable windows, not fixed windows (don’t open or close). i only ask because all of the pictures that you posted appear to be fixed windows, not operators.

If fixed window works for your project then there are easy (and relatively inexpensive) options, but if you need sliding windows then contact Windows on Washington and ask for advice.

I am confused as to why they need to open. I like the sliding doors that open in nteriors like lofts where a space is for a bedroom but I do not see the purpose to have an interior window thta opens.

I'm splitting a room so that I create a small living room and a bedroom. The idea is very similar to the first photo. The bedroom would be using the exterior window. I was thinking of sliding windows for 1) allow light to enter the living room adjacent to the bedroom and 2) allow air to circulate.

Perhaps an open grid without the glass would do?

Are you thinking of an opening between the two rooms like shown in the first picture, or will you have either a solid wall or a doorway between them rather than the opening?

I don't understand how you need an operating window to allow light between the spaces since allowing light to pass into a room is kinda pretty much the basic definition of a glass window, but I do understand wanting to allow some air movement between rooms assuming that you don't have the open space as shown in the first picture.

If asked I would probably suggest a fixed window in the wall like shown in the picture and if you need more air movement then maybe decorative vents installed in the wall that would allow air movement between the rooms.

The primary advantage of a fixed window would be cost, but maybe aesthetics as well. Personally I think a fixed window like shown in all of your pictures looks a lot better than a window with one side intended for exterior installation installed in an interior living space. It can certainly be done, but I think the chances of it looking a bit odd might be a concern.

With a single fixed window I would suggest framing the hole with whatever material (metal, wood, plastic) you prefer and then mounting a single sheet of either safety (laminated or tempered) glass, or else a minimum 3/8" (assuming a large opening) clear acrylic sheet in the hole and then adding muntin bars of your choice to both sides of the glass using VHB (very high bond) tape to hold the bars in place.

If you choose this route understand that VHB tape is not forgiving of mistakes and once it bonds to the glass it isn't coming off, so you have to get it right the first time. VHB is what window companies use to attach muntin bars to SDL (simulated divided lite) windows.

thanks a lot, @oberon476. After reading your and other's comments, I think I will go with the option of using a fixed frame. I'm thinking of not using glass afterall so that the window allows both light and air to enter into the adjacent room.
