need help choosing stain and finish for concrete floors of new build
Comments (15)I have concrete floors w/radiant heat in the kitchen/dining room, not stained, just a sealer applied. I also have dark acid stained floors in the living room with radiant heat, a passive solar house- in the winter sun light comes in 23'. The acid stain has held up 15 yrs, but now showing some effects of the UV rays, color is definitely lighter where the sun left it's mark. The unstained kitchen has held consistent color (same sun exposure) and just now requires resealing. My wish is we had not acid stained the LR. Best guess is it will hold color another 3+years before an intervention..... & no clue how/what that will entail. My kitchen, however, is good to go, the gray patina improves with age, (& a lot of imperfections ) ,still looks good from kids, dogs, NY winters & a ton of traffic. Paint is not a good choice for longevity. Acid staining is the only way to go (it penetrates the surface) but it is a mess to deal with- prep work to protect walls/trim, wash down (with lots of water), foot booties, safety glasses, gloves, face masks & the result is a 'live with what you got' situation. Good luck....See MoreExterior Color Selection for New Farmhouse Style Home - Help Needed!
Comments (10)Coming from Chicago, IMO there is nothing worse than a house that has a muddy off color in the dead of winter against all that dirty snow Light Mist and Pearl Gray are meh! Comments (10)I hope you are able to do wider steps, which will make your entrance a focal point. Yours look rather skimpy and tight. This house below has generous steps and attractive porch skirting. As far as color goes, white on white is a good option. Take a look at pictures on Houzz with board and batten. There are examples of good looking combinations of shakes, board and batten and stacked stone that you can study how they achieve an attractive look. Here is one house I think is successful. Look at all of its photos. Here is one that just did b&b with stone....See MoreHELP! Trying to figure out an exterior color for our new build, blue?
Comments (16)what direction does the front face? have you tried Hale Navy? I think that's the color on the last photo you posted above. Hale Navy with Pale Oak trim. don't be afraid of it looking too dark. against the crisp white, it's going to look great. Heck, I think it would look great in black! speaking of, this is Addisons Wonderland home, in a mix of Soot and Witching Hour. But it does look like soot. the white is Dove Wing. I actually painted my wall is a custom mix of Hale Navy and a deep black. You could play around w/your samples and pick one of the blues you really like but thing are too 'bright', and mix in a deeper navy or thrown in a bit of black. here are some darker tones for that one color you like I just found this one. it's BM Indi Go-Go. If you think the other navys are too dark, this one may be light enough aginst all your shade. Paired here w/warmer whites. I like the crisp whites better. Hudson Bay is another one that is dark, but not too dark. Here's that one pic you asked about: Here's Hale Navy BM VanDeusen Blue: (I've used this color. it's very pretty. if you home is in mostly shade, this may be be dark enough for you) BM Stormy Sky and Classic Gray on the trim BM Ocean Floor beautiful w/the greens. White Trim is White dove Maybe these others will help. Some of these are gray/navys. Decorators white is a cool white. great for a crisp white against the dark blue...See Moremillworkman
