Which way should door open?
Comments (5)I like the way it is. I too would not want to step out infront of the toilet. I think your towel rack placement would affect where you exit also. I think aiming the way you have it allow easy access to the linen closet just in case you forget to get a towel out. Also, if someone is in bath with you, say using the vanity for a moment (cause in your bath I personally would not sit on the pot while someone was in the shower but that is just me), you would not have to wait for them to move to exit the shower....See MoreWhat way should cabinet doors swing open?
Comments (2)I would say it depends on use and configuration. In the following pic, the double cabinets look good with doors opening to the outside, and the single cabinet on the end opens conveniently to the right. Sorry for such a blurry image. In the next pic, the door between the sink and range opens to the left, convenient if there are items for cooking stored in it--spices, oils, etc.--but not so convenient for dishes, if that's a clean-up sink. In the following pic, the cabinet on the far right opens to the left, which seems inconvenient to me, because all the work areas seem to be to the left. The contents of the cabinet should be more easily accessed from the left side, but it depends on what is stored there, which we don't know. Maybe that's a baking counter, and baking staples are kept in the cabinet. If your base cabinets also have doors, this is a perfect time to upgrade to all drawer bases. GW discussions--all drawer bases...See MoreCabinet Doors:Open which way?
Comments (27)I'd do the one immed to the right of the sink as a single with the handle on the left and hinge on the right. That way when you're standing at the sink, it will open toward you. I'd keep glasses and mugs, every day drinkware there. Probably a bottle of vitamins or other such might live there, too. The other two should be a double, opening in the center. Then you have plenty of room for your dishes, or large mixing bowls, or baking dishes or whatever. I would absolutely not have three choppy cabinets there....See MoreBased on these Blueprints and Pics, which way should i lay the LVP?
Comments (24)How much of a flooring budget do you have? You could do planks on the diagonal, or in a herringbone or parquet pattern, and avoid all orientation issues altogether, lol. Or, if you'd rather add windows, there are several rooms with exterior walls that could have windows in them, where running the boards parallel to the stairs would then follow Miss Beverly's rule of running the planks perpendicular to windows. Of course, that means that you'd *also* have planks running parallel to the original windows, and if the generally-accepted architectural ideal is to have rooms with windows on at least 2 sides, I don't see how this rule is followed on a regular basis in well designed homes. :-D...See MoreLaurie Condie
