Good year for roses so far
Comments (2)Wow! They are really beautiful roses. I love Morden Bush and Prairie Sunrise. Is Morden Bush blush pink?...See MoreA rotten year for roses?
Comments (24)A rotten year here, too, for anything sensitive. All of last year's marginals either died in our extra bad winter or succumbed to the heat this summer. New bands with tender roots also succumbed to the heat. I've watered more this year but obviously not enough. I've never had a problem before; if I plant these "premature" babies in spring, they survive, tho it usually takes them an extra year to really get going. Bands with good roots that went in early have done fine, however, and my established roses have done well. Few jap beetles and too hot for much blackspot....See MoreCarnage in the flower garden
Comments (2)Things aren't as bad here in eastern pa. A couple of freezes have done damage but nothing like what you're seeing. The worst was rose bush damage and a wisteria that lost every bud except for one single bloom cluster..... And it had hundreds on their way this year. Oh and Japanese maple and butterfly bush damage......See MoreNot a good year for most of my 10 rose bushes
Comments (30)I was thinking about getting 1 1/2' high chicken wire rather than the 2' as it might be easier to feed & prune, etc if it wasn't 2' high. Our Home Depot doesn't sell it any lower than 2' high. All our 10 bushes are in a row directly on the south side almost touching our brick house. One of the weaker bushes that get attacked is the first one on the end. We thought of attaching wire to meet the house on the one end and then bringing it across (in front) of 7 of the bushes & bringing it over to touch the house on the last bush. The 3 bushes not wired in are never bothered by the critters. How does this sound? Seems easier than doing each individual bush. Thanks. Never did this before....See Moreschoolhouse_gwagain
