The bench looks great!

I have a very similar set-up — small concrete bench in a front bed, with a pebble path leading to and under it. I also have a glazed pot with flowers on it, usually the bushier type of Mandevilla.

But mine isn’t at my entry, so I like your idea of using a more decorative stone around yours.

Can you show a photo from in front of it, standing back to see how it relates to your yard and the front of the bed?

Thanks! I also have a potted mandevilla that may put somewhere in the area. I added some pictures but there are some large shrubs in front of house that prevent me from getting other angles.

Lots of creative options, just depends on the look you’re wanting.

Here are a few suggestions:

I think you will be fighting a losing battle against people cutting across the lawn and getting to your door through the gap in the shrubbery. (Pic 1) Why not just make it a path using whatever material you decide on for beneath the bench?

Thanks for all your input! Like the stream suggestion. The large Mexican pebbles I was considering are pretty expensive. Doug, is there a way you can put them in the picture instead of the plants vs the river rocks I have. I'm kind of low tech!

What do you think about a few round stepping stones in the "stream"?

I do not see the purpose of the bench who will ever sit there ? I like things to make sense and a sitting space there does not make sense .

Yes, stepping stones are a great idea for looks and function. I have them in all of my beds and do use them.

I am liking the Mexican River rocks…or the rocks in combo with dark mulch. Contain the rocks to one area and add mulch where you have plants that you want to encourage to grow. You have some great visuals of BOTH options, above. Try them out! Plus…pretty pots.

When I saw your initial picture, thought bench looked a bit random in that spot, but figured once you added something around/under it would improve.

With your additional pictures, the location feels even more off. If open to testing/moving, suggest placing near the large rock, up against walkway (find a new spot for rock).

The bench will become part of the entrance and fill ground accordingly. Pics below may help somewhat. Then add to the garden by window to create a well balanced feel.

If you feel you want more attention at entrance:

Please, no loose gravel. If someone wants to sit there or set something down there, they may lose their footing in loose gravel. I like the stepping stone look or flagstone.
