I have a country red front door (SW barn red, I think), and the brick on my house is tends to look orangey (lots of different colors/chicago type brick). No shutters. We painted the door's side lights a creamy color. The door absolutely pops with the cream sidelights and looks fabulous with the bricks that really aren't red at all, there are some terra cotta bricks. My porch has potted fake geraniums (from JoAnns) in what look to be ancient pots (complete with "moss"). The geraniums match the door color almost exactly (now that was a happy coincidence!), and look great all year round, even at Christmas time. I think my front porch is the most beautiful in the neighborhood. There are a lot of houses with red doors, but painting the side lights the cream color, then with the red geraniums in front of the side lights--the effect is so charming. I actually have a pair of pots in front of each side light: one pot on a small metal stand, then another pot infront of the stand, so the overall look is very colorful. My house is one story, built in 1976, rather traditional looking.

Love the idea of using the picture, cutting out the door, and checking color samples to get an idea. We have a new construction home that is "granite gray" (a medium tone gray) with white windows and trim. I love the contrast. We do have a 1/2 wall of brick in the front with a mix of neutrals (tans,whites,grays). I've been thinking of a plum or eggplant color for the front door. I do love the BM Cottage Red that Jan in WI has, but my husband is pretty conservative and that might be too much for him - but I'm sure we could work that out. ;-) Any thoughts or suggestions? I appreciate any additional input - I often refer to myself as "fasionably challenged" and this is my first time on this website/forum. Thanks (I will post a pic when I figure it out)

Thank you. I will be replacing the storm door down the line. For now I’ll be cleaning it up and painting it when I select a door color. Any more color help? I don’t want white. I had great results on painting the interior of the door but having a hard time with a color for the exterior that will pull the eye. It’s the reddish brick that’s throwing me off. I love blues, red and yellows.

Please post interior pics or the listing link. Although the home has been listed for 4 months.... NOW is the season. Every buyer wants to feel like they got a deal. For example, a friend had a garage sale and people were haggling over a $1 item to be fifty-cents. So ridiculous! Everyone has a dollar cash in their pocket... Was the homeowner supposed to go to the bank for $300 in quarters to make change in anticipation? She had.change, not that much in quarters. EVERYONE WANTS A BARGAIN. -If your house was in PERFECT condition, a buyer will demand freebies, like your 6 month old never-used dining table and new upholstered dining chairs from PB ($400 each). Or a freezer or your refrigerator, or ALL of your furniture. It is their wishful thinking and "squeaky wheel" if ya don't ask, you won't get" mentality. They make lowball offers. DESCRIPTION- What is your current description? Don't list "as-is". It will make your home sound like a squirrel's nest. Avoid words like charming, quaint, cute, & sunny kitchen." The kitchen is a "chefs kitchen" with "rich cabinetry" Your home is "beautiful." Can you do cartwheels in the bedroom or living room? If so, then say so. Ginormous master suite. AGENT. -Let your contract expire with your agent. Agents want a quick commission. They will encourage you to price a home low because a local neighborhood that is 20 yrs older is selling at that price, in contrast to your newer neighborhood where there are no listings. They do so to attract those buyers to get you sold fast. CHIMNEY- what's wrong with the chimney? Can a burn log remediate it or is it a matter of crumbling? Perhaps they can't get the homeloan secured by the bank if the chimney needs repair? SPRINKLERS- What is wrong? A leaky sprinkler can add $$$ to the water bill. If tree roots are strangling the pipes, the sprinklers won't pop-up due to low pressure. Listen for hiss in the ground- that's where the problem is located. You must dig up that part of the lawn; Cut out the pipe and the root; and connect new pipe. Many young home buyers have no idea of how to do these things. PRICE- -Determine the price you want out of the sale. -Then add on to that figure an extra $ 13-15K in anticipation of "deal-makers" -Scour open house listings and capitalize on the traffic. Have an open house every time there is one in your area. Tell the agent lead post your signs off the main streets and near the competition's open house.
