Franke, Elkay, or ROHL stainless kitchen sink?

Hi, I’m looking to purchase a stainless steel kitchen sink and want to know what would be the best?

I think you need to look at the configurations as much as or more than the brand name. Which ones are the thicker 16 gauge rather than the thinner 18 gauge? Which ones have an advantageous corner drain? Which ones fit into your cabinet sink base better? Which one has the most interior space?

I’ve narrowed it down to 16 gauge and all these brands I’ve listed accommodate my measurements. What I’m really asking- is there an advantage of using one over the other?

I am so glad someone else is considering a stainless steel bathroom sink. Consumer Reports did give stainless the highest rating for bathroom sinks in terms of resistance to dings, cracks,etc. The two major mfrs. I've been able to find are Elkay and Kohler, both well-respected. Both have instructions on how to care for the finish and do mention that, depending on the hardness of your water, you can end up with water spots. They suggest dabbing the sink dry after each use with a soft cloth. Also certain abrasive cleaners are not recommended, so check with Elkay. So, if you don't mind a little extra care to keep the finish looking lovely, I'd go for it. It would be like jewelry in your bathroom! And with stainless, you won't end up with the crack like we have in our old porcelain master sink, where DH dropped his electric razor. :-(

Thanks so much for the fast reply. The Kohler sink I have now is 8 3/4 deep and that is really deep enough for me - I don't wash many by hand. The Franke has a shelf and grid that fits half way down but those can add another $500 to the bill. I daily wash fruits and vegetables so the shelf on both would be used a lot. One thing that I forgot about: Besides the faucet, I will have a hot water dispenser and a soap dispenser. I'm not sure if there is enough room with the Elkay. I just looked up the Profi Star by Suter that terryrenovator just posted about. It has some really neat accesories that come with it and a few others that are extra. But the sink is really too small for me.

I looked at both of these too. I ended up with the Orca, my water was just hooked up last night and I LOVE it! I only have a 33 in cabinet, so that was a big part of my decision. The Mistic says 36 in min cabinet. I also did not want my faucet at one end, especially the left end since I'm right handed. To me, they look to function very similar in that they are both relatively deep, have an integrated shelf ledge, and large interior space. I'd think you would be happy with either. I had a bunch of stuff to wash last night before putting it away. We do have the bottom and right side grids for the Orca. I set up a tub of water on the right grid and literally filled the sink with stuff. The grid put the tub of water at a great height for me, and the bottom grid was also comfortable. I could wash and return stuff to the sink, then just rinse as I moved to the drying area. Once I was done, I could put stuff on the bottom, right grid, and colander accessory to have 3 tiers drying plus keep the tub and a large colander draining in the left side area. So to answer your question about comparing, the differences I weighed were -all one width vs two widths -faucet placement -depth -minimum cabinet size needed -cost -one side with shelf vs two sides with shelf available Both are much better than my shallow double sink in terms of functionality. And quite honestly, by the time I hit week 5 with no sink, I would have been thrilled with any of the sinks I looked at seriously. But I was actually smiling doing the dishes in the Orca last night, and I hate doing dishes.

Rohl Allia vs Blanco Profina vs Franke Farm House Sink?

I have had a blanco profina for over a year. I really like it. Haven’t had any issues with cracking. I do have a garbage disposal. The ledge is nice for chopping, and I have a dish drainer that sits on the ledge also. I use a rack in the bottom to protect from pans. Cleaning is a breeze - even easier than stainless sinks I’ve had in the past. I love the way it looks with my white cabinets and countertops. Not sure the centered drain bothers me, but it probably will now that I’ve read your post. At least it will make me think about it. Also I didn’t think I would like one big sink, but I actually do.

If they all make a sink that works for your dimensions and requirements, then I'd probably use budget as the tie-breaker. All of these brands are reputable. Pick the one you like the best for the money.

You didn’t say what type of sink you are looking for - undermount, apron front, single or double bowl, workstation style or not, or any special features that you want. So assuming an undermount, the cheapest Franke 16 gauge undermount sink is $1,350. The most expensive Elkay 16 gauge undermount sink is about $850. I see nothing in the Franke sinks that merit such a price difference. Nothing. I have no knowledge of Rohl stainless steel sinks.

Franke and Elkay make fine sinks; I don't know anything about Rohl either. C-Tech makes some very nice sinks at a nice price.

I moved into a home with Franke sink and love it. We just installed a new laundry room and I decided to get a Franke for there as well. It feels substantial, is quiet, and looks nice.

We have Kraus sink and happy with it. It similar to Frankie.

I just bought a Franke Grande 30" based on the Ferguson Showroom sales consultant's experience with her own sinks. It's 18 guage stainless, one basin, rear drain. I purchased the in-sink grid as well but no other "workstation" type accessories, though I might in the future.

I’ve had an Elkay for 9 years. At the time it was about $600. No dents, easy to clean and maintain. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a damaged stainless steel sink.
