Nothing says cottage like a picket fence. : ) A shade tolerant rose you might want to consider is Therese Bugnet. I'll link you to a pic of mine. She was young here and in the shade. Now she's in the sun and not liking it much so she's on the list to be moved. She is a rugosa with lovely pinkish-lilac blooms. Btw, did you get your shelves in the kitchen? I haven't been online much - vacation and lots of spring cleaning, inside and out. I've done so much painting that the fumes feel permanently imbedded in my nose. Lavender needs as much direct sun as possible and should be kept on the dry side. Fertilizer will hinder the fragrance...about every three weeks or so in summer use fish emulsion diluted at 1/2 of the recommended strength, after you have watered thoroughly. Enjoy the heavenly fragrance!

I want to overwinter this lavender plant in a pot. (I don't have a good spot in the ground for it.) Obviously it needs a bigger pot... what type of pot would you recommend and how would you recommend wintering it? I bought it this year for $2 and it was only about 2 inches high....it grew so well.
