The garage doors should either be natural wood or a paint color to help it fade away into the background.

On the other hand, the front door could be any bright and bold color you like.

What color is your roof. When I look at it, I see charcoal roofing, and the next time, I look at it, it looks brown. I certainly do not blame you for wanting to get rid of that green. The garage doors look nice and so do the windows, do you have to replace them? Could they all be painted instead? Your lights on the garage and on the house are a bit small. The three on the garage are a little bit low. I would replace them, with bigger black ones and try and get them up a little higher. The ones by the front door, are the right height, but, they are too small.

Roof shingles are brown but definitely on the greyer end of brown. We do plan to just paint what we can, the front door does need replaced and we wonder if the garage doors would be better replaced just so we can get a plainer more modern style. That's an interesting point on the lights. I had wondered if they should be changed too. The number sign also needs to be bigger and be the other side of the door along with the mail box as the space there is bigger (used to be a tree there but now it's gone it looks very cramped with the mail box and the numbers in the small side)

THank you, I'm a little worried about doing charcoal windows with the siding color we have. What do you think? Will it be enough of a contrast or will it just end up looking like it neither contrasts nor matches? Here's a picture which better shows the side of the house and the siding.

A sage green would be nice. The green you have is too bright, or too strong a color.

With the color of your stone, I would pick out a light color leaning cream, that goes with the stone, and use the charcoal color for the trim, and windows. I would paint the garage doors the same as the siding, so they blend in, instead of standing out too much.

@cat_ky you mean the light color for the garage doors to blend with the stone and the charcoal for trim and windows? The tricky part is the siding and the stone on the front of the house are such different colors!

I think you need to go with wood tones, but one that contrasts with your siding, which is too dark for a dark wood, a gray or a green. The front is a bit more forgiving. It’s a lovely house!!🙂

Hardie board can be painted, but I'm not sure you need to change it. The picture doesn't show the color of your front door too well, but it looks like its color might be a good color for the garage doors. Your front door could be green unless you're just tired of green, but as Izzy MN said, the current green isn't quite right. It should be darker and more gray - like the color on the back of your house, but darker. If you did that the front would blend with the back better.

I would aim for the garage doors to fade away and let the lovely stone be appreciated. The color of the siding might work in that regard and also pull the house together color wise. You can always go a bit more grey if the green undertone is too prominent. The eves the same color as roof. Leave decision on windows and choose your door first.

I mean all the siding also in the light tones. Charcoal on the trim, and windows. You can paint your door any color you like. A nice brighter color.

@cat_ky ok, yikes that is quite a big job which I was hoping to avoid lol! It was done only a few yrs ago and we do really like the color except it is just proving a bit of a quandary on how to get rid of the bright green but still complement the stone and the siding color. It would definitely be simpler if the whole house was roughly the same color I agree!

ANother question, would it be a huge faux pas design wise to have the windows on the sides of the house painted a different color than those on the front? And thank you all so much for your feedback and input i really appreciate it!!

I'm liking the green vibe. What if you paint the trim on the front and side the same color as the hardie-board? It is a nice color. If not, I'd find another olive that complements the hardie-board. I like the look of a painted garage door on your home. The stone is pretty but I think adding wood tones will make it seem a bit busy.

All these people who are recommending you select a color for the doors so they don't stand out are simply mimicking something that is often said on this forum.

Do you really think your home looks better with a color selected from the stone? I don't.

Garage doors have to be considered on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes they need to blend in and sometimes they need to command attention.

I can't believe you hid the balance of the house in your first post. Very important info. I'm assuming you don't want to restain the siding. It would be nice to get a decent accurate picture of the siding instead of the sideways view. It's a great color for your home. The bright green trim is the problem as has been already stated.

All the windows should be painted the same color. Sometimes window frames blend in and sometimes they contrast and stand out.

I don't care for the green. at all.

pick the warmer gold tones or the wood option.

if you want the warmer tones, try some of these. the french horn color or terra cotta would be nice for the door

or, the darker, grayish green undertones in these colors for the garage door and trim.

Try Wrought Iron or Iron Ore on the trim, and diff garage doors.

Or, you could try painting them one of these warmer tones to mimic the wood color

Celery nailed it. Deep charcoal or a soft black for all trim works on all sides of the house. Yes, a good photo of the siding would have been helpful at the beginning, but the deep Iron Ore will help to make the stone stand out. SW Urbane Bronze is also a great dark gray and a touch warmer (has some brown undertones) so get a sample of that too. It’s a great color.

Dark doors are also wonderful (and get higher asking prices according to realtors). Paint the garage dark too. All the window trim will be the same and look great.
