Comments (10)A good finish carpenter should be able to figure this out. Try the finehomebuilding.com web site. I recall reading an article in the magzaine (maybe 7 or 8 years) where they detailed how to do this. If I recall correctly, the design was for a SxS but it should give you an idea of how it work with your existing fridge. (Sorry I can't be more precise about where to find it, but I'm on the road today and can't get to my magazine stash.) As for what your kitchen designed hates, hey, whose kitchen is it, anyway?...See MoreOH NO! Will my refridgerator open?
Comments (28)I would move the oven cabinet stack where the fridge is now, move the end cabinet where the oven is now, and move the fridge of your desire on the end run of cabinets. I don't care what kind of math you do, you will hate that fridge there next to that wall. Any fillers you need to make up the difference where the fridge is now should be eaten by your KD. He erred big time. Don't gloss over this because it will be something you hate. My side by side fridge opens both ways like a French door unit. It is at the end run of cabinets with a built-in "cabinet box" with a 4" spacerbuilt to the right and 3" to the left with cabinets above. The "cabinet box is about 36" deep, which protrudes much further out that the adjacent run of cabinets. Even with the spacers, I have to pull the fridge out into the middle of my walk-way to remove the shelves or drawers. It's a PITA. My parents were in a similar situation as your soon to be kitchen. The only solution that was feasible and cost effective was what I suggested to you. It's been that way in their home for 30 years. AND they are very happy with their kitchen layout. Comments (5)I'm not certain if this addresses your question or not, as judydel said a photo or drawing would really help. I saw this pantry on Houzz this morning that looks to be a closet faced with cabinetry to make it fit in with adjoining kitchen cabinetry. As you can see, there is molding around the cabinetry doors that makes the pantry feel like its all part of the cabinetry until the pantry door is opened and the large amount of space is exposed. Comments (95)This whole situation must be so frustrating. Follow the $ to find the responsible party. Is this what happen? Client /homeowner hires GC to do kitchen then GC suggests a cabinet/ countertop place. Client pays GC GC pays cabinet/countertop place. Who installed the countertop/ cabinet place or GC? If the cabinet/ countertop placed failed it falls back on the GC to fix it with that cabinet company or take a loss & fix it to the client who hired & paid GC. The GC is suppose to manage their subs. If a sub fails, it falls back on GC. The GC should of inspect the sub installed work with client before releasing full payment. At least in theory this would of been the timeline. Unfortunately, the cabinet company got paid pre-maturely before the job was finished to satisfaction. I think that falls back on GC. Hopefully a Pro will chime in & explain more on the way it is suppose to work, so you can find a solution. I am not trying to start the blame game. Just trying to help figure out who needs to step up & fix this once for all. There is no excuse for those hole cuts in your cabinets. The crown into windows, bad enough the fridge...good grief! That is absurb & got me so frustrated for you, I had to write this. Focus to the responsible party client hired. I would have a factual, polite conversation with the responsible party about how to fix it all by a reasonable time. Give them a chance to fix it. Reason with the reasonible. If they are not making any effort to fix it then seek legal counsel. I would not treaten with court or lawyer until it's the last option. Focus on positive solutions. I hope some good news happens soon....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
