I've grown honeydew for a couple of years, mostly EarliDew, and the results have been slightly disappointing. Nicely formed melons, but not really that sweet. Last year I was getting Brix 9, which is considered sort of "poor-fair" for honeydew. Just harvested my first one the other day and KERBLAM! Through the roof sweetness. Brix 15, which is considered higher than "excellent" for honeydew. I'm trying to figure out what I did right this year. The only obvious difference is that this year I threw N fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) on the patch every few weeks. (My soil has loads of P and K already, but N is variable and leachable.) Maybe that did it? Same sun, same temps, same water, same soil.
