What are your opinions on this tile/cabinet installation?
Comments (2)I think I see what you see. On the tile I would have expected the installer to have used spacers to make the grout even, but I think it is probably something that in the long run other than you knowing it's there most people won't notice. My cabinet installers put some hooks on the inside of our lockers against bead board (which really shows if they are off by a fraction of an inch). I remember the day the KD & I stood & looked at them (sorry I don't have a picture available) -- they are just enough off to bug me/you -- the lead guy did not do the job. On this one we shrugged. As it ends up with coats & backpacks hanging on them I can't see it . . . Of course, that doesn't answer your question. Perhaps you should suggest to the owner of the cabinet company that you won't feel comfortable giving him referals (including recommending to friends) with how the knobs turned out. Perhaps there is something he can do to help your feelings . . . Good luck!...See MoreSeeking cabinet maker referrals in SF Bay Area
Comments (12)thank you all for the referrals. i will be reaching out to several so keep 'em comin'. i am in particular interested in co's that have demonstrated experience with inset cabinetry and are in the more affordable range :). firsthouse - thanks for the reply on paint color. your house it going to be stunning, can't wait to see the reveal! i emailed my initial kitchen info to precision cabinetry, should know more next week. mrschris- your post cracked me up. i found the budget discoveries horrifying too! glad i can share my horrors / experience with others - it has been an education for me. i will check out the san mateo co on monday. it looks like i will be going with contractor #5 (referenced on a prior post on saga of how to find a good GC). we met again yesterday and are close on the negotiations. thanks to those who posted photos - much appreciated! remodel-mama: i am debating between omega/dynasty semi custom or a local custom job. my thoughts so far: SEMI CUSTOM PROS AND CONS: pro's cost effective - cabinetry will cost less than custom. cons: limited by paint color. i do not really like either of the two whites on dynasty line and labor cost to install smaller sections of modular cabinetry are higher than if i had custom cabinets which will be made in bigger sections. if parts are missing or damaged i would have to wait for a new shipment from mfg who is not local. could cause delay to overall project timeline. CUSTOM PROS AND CONS: pros: can spec out exactly what i want in terms of cabinet design, can get the exact creamy white paint color, labor costs may be slightly less to install, in theory a local cab co should be able to remedy any issues quicker if something comes up on the job during installation. con's: cabinets will be more expensive than semi custom. because i have a small kitchen with not a lot of cabinetry i may be able to squeak by with custom, will have to see how bids come in. will keep you all posted...and thanks again for your posts and insights. i am so glad i found this site! babushka...See MoreSeeking opinions on walnut flooring and countertops
Comments (8)It would be every countertop in the kitchen. Not just an island. The perimeters may change at some point in the future if I decide on something else, but nothing has really thrilled me for the kitchen as far as stone goes. The combination of brick, white, almost black, and walnut seems nearly impossible to match. Walnut was the easy way out, cheap, and we already had enough lumber for flooring, countertops, and shelves. I think having semi gloss on the floor and satin on the counters will help differentiate the two as well. I will get pictures this evening when I get my mess cleaned up. Mr. MM is currently packing up the truck to take the girls to the lake this weekend to camp with his family. I'm staying behind this time to work on the kitchen. Funny how roles have reversed. Nini- there is quite a bit of countertop, but mostly in the 7x3 island. The perimeters have almost none. Just 27" on each side of the sink and range. mythreesonsnc- Your kitchen floors and counter are very similar to what I think ours will look like. More variation on the floor and the least variation in the countertops. My island cabinets are almost black, my perimeter cabs are an off-white/creamy color....See Moreseeking opinion from granite experts …
Comments (5)Gee Dem: I have done your job hundreds of times, in fact, sink replacement are all we do. With the exception of the occasional solid surface job, we never remove tops and cut, profile, and polish cutouts on site with no mess. Of course I have written reviews to substantiate my claims. If you're within several hours of Sarasota, FL, I'll give you a proposal. If not, I can help your fabricator through the process. At the risk of a span accusation, here you go....See Morechispa
