I'd suggest you delay the decision as long as possible and check-out the door samples and take them home after the major surfaces are complete - lights, flooring, etc... For our kitchen, I originally fell in love with a warm cream mixed with light taupe moldings. In the actual room, chips and larger painted samples looked fine until the actual surfaces, new windows and lighting were installed. The warm cream turned flesh-toned and the light taupe picked up really unattractive darkness with green overtones. I am currently recycling the leftovers of that paint in my office where THE EXACT PAINT appears as pale cream with a little warmth. While its good to know I'm not crazy, even an experienced painter can't quite figure it out.

Joe - that’s because they are across from each other on the wheel, right? Sort of cancel each other out? My husband really wants to do an off-white on the walls for the main space and then do blue/grey kitchen cabinets and blue/grey decor accents. It’s hard to tell in this picture, but the actual pine boards are quite honey/orange colour and the beams are a red/brown. The beams will be painted a darker true brown and the pine boards are staying as-is.

Lots: red, several blues (from navy to dusty gray-blue to sky blue), sage green (to name one), oatmeal gray, warm tan. I would only avoid oranges and orange-yellow. Look at your books and pictures, do any of them not look good against the pine?

Start by providing photos. No one can really give good suggestions without seeing the space you're dealing with. Take pictures of rooms you're asking about from all four walls so we can see doorways, windows, adjacent spaces. What furniture do you plan to bring? Start an Ideabook on Houzz called "knotty pine" and save those that appeal to you. Is this a vacation home or main home?
