Denim Cushion Covers: Apparel Weight or Upholstery Weight
Comments (10)Probably the difference is the width of fabric, but maybe not. Most upholstery fabric is 54" wide. Apparel fabric may be anywhere from 48" to 60" wide. So get the fabric you like - but I would get as sturdy a denim as you can find. You will also need to get some heavy duty needles. Sewing multiple layers of denim fabric can be very bulky and you'll need a good strong thread and needle for your machine. You might want to even double stick the seams - for extra durability. That just means sewing over the seam twice. Welting does add complexity to the project - mostly because you have to make it and you'll need alot of it! The welting has to be cut on the bias, so it's a pain to make in my opinion. To buy enough for your project would be expensive, but worth it if you really want welting! I have made slipcovers for my sofa and chair, and have done a lot of sewing over the years. It's not hard, but does take alot of planning, measuring and patience. The fabric needs to be prewashed for shrinkage before cutting it out, so that is a job unto itself! Not to discourage you, but I would try and find someone who would make these for you, or go online and do a search for slipcovers. You'll have over $200 in fabric costs and may be able to find ready made ones for just a reasonable price when you factor in your time costs....See MoreCanadian Quilters and Online Fabric Stores
Comments (5)I have only shopped at Hamels Fabrics in Chilliwack BC. They are wonderful to deal with have high quality fabric and very good sales. I got a 16pc FQ bundle Reg. $74.00 for $34.98. The online shops treat us shoppers just as if we were in their store. You will find good quality and great service from 99%. I didn`t mention using your credit card or PayPal. Many are moving to PayPal. You must sign up with them and they do all the credit card transactions in a safe way. If you use your credit card, the good stores will indicate your are entering a secure area where you enter your card information. In 5 years, I have never had a problem. When I started shopping, I used the shops advertised in magazines. I just looked around until I found ones I liked and that catered to my needs. You will find one shop may favor flannels, another novelty, another reproduction, etc. Another spot Quiltshops.com has a membership of 200 stores and you can browse through those. Shops I have shopped at with great results are: Connecting threads Quilters Quarter - selling out Stitch-N-Frame Contemporary Cloth AAA Quilters Supply Quiltville Creations If you sign up for a shop's free newsletter, then you will get their sale dates and new items they bring in. I am not associated with any of these shops in any way. Jeane...See MoreLooking for contemporary fabrics online
Comments (6)Housefabric.com has some great contemporary fabrics. For starters try Contemporary Tapestry, Contemporary and Tween, and Urban Element headings, but you can also search by color and get a mix of what is there, or by pattern (such as plaid, etc. HavenÂt ordered from them in a while, but the service was great and the samples affordable and worth the time to check colors....See MoreOnline sources for Roman blinds
Comments (11)Thanks everyone. My thought was to bring in some color and pattern to what is currently all wood, wood tones and metal. I did think to add texture, but would a natural woven shade look boring? By the way, I am a girl. :) I love the rich color of the cabinets, but strengthening the masculine aspects of the room may not be what I want. I don't want a window treatment to look cheap or out of place, or country or frilly, but I would rather soften the formality than make it more formal. I like rich colors, but making it a little less traditional, giving it a little modern edge would be nice, but I also like to add some contrasting elements to keep it interesting and personal. I am certainly open to keeping it rich and clean lined, but I need to add some interest and contrast in some way. I picked a faucet that that is supposed to have an organic shape from nature, it looks like a nodding flower to me. I also picked it in shiny chrome to add a little shiny sparkle and break up the brushed nickel and stainless steel bit. The light fixtures I thought were also a little like flowers and might go with the faucet but I think now they just look sort of old fashioned. I may eventually change the knobs, but have no idea to what. I think glass would be very pretty but would play up the formality even more, and to be honest, this kitchen indulges my formal side, but my house is really not super formal. If I could add a little punch, a little color, even soft color, as well as texture, and make it a little less masculine and traditional at the same time, I would love that. I may be a hopeless cause, however. They had to talk me out of a mini pendant at the lighting store that was a small cube of crystals with a light in the center. :) LOL, I just found a piture of it: I will save that for somewhere else, though. I have no problem adding a crystal pendant over a country bed. :) Hmmm, maybe one over each night stand... Oops slapping myself upside to get back to the current task and stop daydreaming. If you have ANY specific recommendations please feel free. I may be wrong, but I am just afraid plain wood blinds would would be too much of the same thing. Whatever I go with, it has to be an inside mount because of the cabinet moldings that don't leave room for an outside mount in the top corners of the window. Photos are hard to get because of the glare, but here is a clearer picture of the window area. I will have to pare down those plants to just a couple and remove the flag to clean up the look a bit: Sue Here is a link that might be useful: The must stay faucet that you can't see clearly in the photo...See MoreFori
