Design Dilemma Paint

Colors for screened sunroom/porch

I need advice on paint colors. I am thinking of a white for the walls but I am also stenciling the tile floor. I would like to keep the floor neutral (white base). The dining set is black so I feel I might be hemmed into a monochromatic scheme but do love the idea of a green/sage to make the room look like an extension of outside. We are on a lake. I recently painted the ship lap ceiling pure white and I’m partial to Ben Moore paints. What would you recommend?

I'd leave the walls and ceiling as is and recover your chair cushions with something more colorful and patterned. With black chairs, I'd go with brighter colors for the fabric. Or you could do black stripes with colorful throw pillows:

We put actual glass in ours. So glad we skipped on vinyl panels. They scratch and dull in time. Not windows. And a local glass company was almost the same price and delivered! We are not trying to winterize our deck though. We are in Washington State and that would cost way more than we can afford. We used some boat carpe for the floors, kept the carpet 3 feet in from all sides so it doesn't take on water from the 1/2 inch gap under the sides. We did have to insulate and enclose the tin roof above with tongue and groove so it doesn't get condesation. If you are building, make sure you use real roofing, not tin roof. They condensate big time. That was our one big mistake. We can store stuff out there, as long as we keep them in plastic bins. Nothing cardboard will last. Even though the dirt under the deck has a vapor barrier and we have rain gutters, it's not enough. For air flow we put in 3 large windows that are nothing but wooden blinds. I don't have pics of the tongue and groove yet. Besides a bit of moisture in the air, it's still pretty nice out there. We are going to get a propane heater out there. That will do it for us.

Kim, I just found this site because I had a question but he's what I think. I'm a licensed architect as well. It really depends how much money you want to spend. A screened in porch is fairly inexpensive compared to a sunroom. But the sunroom cost is really in the windows. You could buy large single pane windows in standard sizes for about $200 each from your discount home improvement center or you could spend $1,200 to $1,500 for each window if you buy the best. Also, if you go with the good windows you will want either a sliding glass door or french doors. Good ones can be $2,000 each. The thing I did a few years back was build the porch the size I wanted and then screened it. After a few years I then purchased decent windows. Keep in mind you buy the cheaper windows you would have a 3 season porch rather than a 4 season if you bought the good windows..... but then if you really want it 4 seasons your going to need some HVAC as well...... I have a day bed coming on Friday and I got a chase that looks a bit Victorian just randomly in the middle right now and a pub style table that I just painted white to also put somewhere in there. But I want to add bright color decor, lime green, turquoise, orange accents and keep the big pieces daybed, chase, table and curtains light and creamy colors to make as comfy as possible.

We need a little more info but first IMO you need some sort of heat and light blocking so solar shades would be a nice choice and a floor plan with as much detail as possible like the measurements of all the spaces and doorways for sure . Is the sofa staying, is that a good indication of your style. Some pics of the other spaces in the home would be helpful

I have considered leaving the walls as is but then my dilemma is what colors to choose for the floor.

I wouldn’t color the floor. I think it’s a great cool backdrop. And I don’t know how a good stencil pattern on time would look. Maybe I need more imagination.

I love the inspo pics from Sabrina- adding more green but leaning into the graphic and sharp contrast, like green & white stripes or black & white or all 3. It is pretty easy to find things in those wide stripes and different colors, if you’re looking for a specific green, or do B&W to be neutral graphic & add pops of green.
I also like adding some carefully selected rich wood tones. Not anything that clashes with your dining set, and keep as an accent, but a wooden bowl, a teak plant stand or something.

I think it looks quite nice as it is with the outdoor siding continuation to the interior in the same colour. Instead of stenciling the floor (you're somewhat limited by the size of your tiles) I suggest a colourful indoor/outdoor rug (large enough for the chairs to sit on the rug when pulled out).
