White can be very tricky. Do you have a sample piece that you can bring around with you? Also when you zero in on a white, try to get a sample board or order as many samples as you can so you can line them up. I installed a white crackle that showed a greyish cast. We tore it out and replaced it with another tile. I have Dove White cabinets but my granite is giallo ornamental(long story) not the best choice with the Dove White. Your soapstone will blend in with whatever white you choose. But you need to look at it at various times of the day and with your lighting. I got advise from various tile stores. Some are better than others but they will help steer you. Also, have you check the Finished Kitchen Blog? Good luck!

The whites are funny, in that they are always whiter than you think from the chip. If you want a brighter white look, go with the White Dove. Some beautiful bright white kitchens to check out are rmkitchen, redroze (BM Chantilly Lace as paint). If you are looking for a softer look, take a look at these kitchens: SW Creamy (sprice5105 just posted today) or BM Linen White (dlspellman just posted), SW Almond white (Jen4268 kitchen), BM Lancaster Whitewash (mamadadapaige has her cabinets this color). It's not BM. The painter likes a particular brand for polyurethane to paint cabinets Then it will never match. All brands use different bases and what you're getting is colored by the base of whatever brand he uses. If you want BM White Dove, then you tell him he needs to use BM. Period. Otherwise you will never be happy. How do I know? I wanted BM Fernwood Green and BM Wilmington Tan for my walls. My painter insisted that SW could match the color. I told him to get a can of each of the BM colors and then to show me the match with SW. Nope, the SW colors had a blue cast to them while the BM colors were warmer. What paint companies who say they can match is hoping that most people can't tell the difference. (My DH thought I was nuts and he couldn't see the difference) but if you're color sensitive, you'll always notice the differences.

Interesting suggestions, all! I have the Samplize of Simply White and many times i have seen people say they see "yellow" so I'm a bit leery of that. Mountain Peak White - yes, need to check that out. And White Opulence isn't one I would have looked at but now I'm thinking maybe? But I see bit of pink - and I have seen a wee bit of pink in Pale Oak at times - would White Opulence bring it out even more (which I don't want). What color white would have the opposite effect (keeping it the greige that I see in "normal" light)? That is one thing that is keeping me away from the White Dove, I read somewhere that the grayish tone was bringing out the pink in Pale oak. And thank you to Beth H for that pic on lighting. I have to check into what we have selected and whether I need to adjust that.
