Comments (2)It's nice, but it's not as good as Great Escape. Take a look at the pictures in this thread linked below. Look at the pics that UK did of both BI and Great Escape. Tell me what you think. Let me suggest that you grow both of them. I have a trio of Blue Ivory, Great Escape and El Nino (no pics, they're not leafed out yet.) Comments (14)I was just over at the Hosta Registry. Both Blue Ivory and Great Escape are sports of Halcyon. They may be the same plant registered under different names. Great Escape was registered by J. van den Top in 2006 and Blue Ivory by L. Klinkhamer in 2009. I don't have Great Escape but I would think that both coming out of Halcyon, they would have the same growth rate all growing conditions being equal. Hallson's advises to keep BI well shaded as the white edge is viridescent. The margin of my BI has never developed green coloring. Yes, BI is slow growing but some things are worth waiting for. Babka, that's a lovely large clump, so I guess growing it well can be done....See MoreHosta Autumn Frost and Blue Ivory
Comments (3)Autumn Frost is on my short list. I picked up Blue Ivory a couple of weeks ago, 4 eyes, but haven't put it in the ground yet. I looked at Blue Ivory last year but wasn't impressed with the single eyed plants I saw, so I passed it by. The one I got this year looks very similar to the one in FranknJim's picture. I'm digging up Blue Cadet and putting Blue Ivory in it's place. Going to use my Blue Cadets as a border after seeing someone else's pictures of them....See MoreEl Nino and Blue Ivory in December
Comments (16)Babka, I like the part where you say you move about 20 pots out on the deck in March and that you can see them all the time. The hostas are so beautiful at that time. It would be a bonus to be able to see them "grow" before your very eyes! I am also curious about your outdoor deck. My husband just finished ours, but it hasn't been stained or painted. Is yours painted? Do you like it? Also, I have never thought of bringing a hosta pot indoors to force it to begin growing early. Sounds like a good idea. Maybe I'll try to find some threads that talk about this. I am in zone 6 (Canada), but considered zone 5 in USDA terms. My hostas begin to grow in late April. Last year I had pots in my unheated garage. When they started to grow, I had to take them outside. We had a lot of nights of frost, so some went back into the garage and some were covered with one of my 6 garbage pails. I have way too many now and 6 garbage pails are no way near enough....See MoreBen D (zone 7b)
