You can’t achieve the look you’re after, because your cabinets are staggered, and don’t go to the ceiling. Unfortunately, the staggered design became dated about 15 years ago.

Look at your inspo pic. The cabinets are the same height up to the ceiling, thus giving it uniform, streamlined appearance.

The operative word is changing. If you hire a kitchen designer who works with competent cabinet companies, you can certainly replace all the cabinets so that they look similar to photo #3. This will not be a trivial expense.

If you go that route, you might review various hood threads on this forum for requirements that might not be characteristic of your existing hood. Wide, deeper with appropriate CFM helps. Make-up air by some means is necessary.

Perhaps remove the drawer and just have the vent wrapped in stainless all the way to the ceiling. You could also do it in wood ,but you would want the finish to match your cabinets.

Have a local custom metalworker create a full duct shroud for the pipe an then just remove the wood pieces. That would let you have stainless to the ceiling. Not at all cheap to do. No solution to this is going to be cheap, other than accepting what is, until you are ready to change quite a bit more of everything.

If replacing cabinets, just replace with the right ones. :)

If not, you'd fill in the entire area above alllllll the cabinets with beadboard to match the cabinets--easier to match if you're painting.

If you aren't painting the cabinets and can't match the wood (no small task!), what about just painting the chimney bit over the drawer the wall color and pretending it isn't there? Or drywall over that section and paint it wall color?

I suppose you could just box the whole thing in and paint it the wall colour but you would have to replace the moulding on the top of the cabinets otherwise it won't lie flush. I'm just not sure that this is a look that will suit your kitchen.

Thanks for your input. We actually looked into getting the vertical stainless steel vent cover for this hood, which is expensive. But also I’m not sure about how that would look with this under cabinet hood. Also looked at some model home kitchens, where most of the hoods were under cabinet. This is a picture from one of the kitchens we saw….with just a cabinet above. Would this work?

That would work (if you're planning to rejigger the cabinets in that space). Your hood is definitely made to be mounted like that. It kind of already is, just with a stubby cabinet.

I would check to be sure three (3) cabinet heights works for you though. It might be too much up&down for one room.

Maybe you could do the new cabinet the same height as the nearby taller cabinets. Box in the exposed piece of vent with drywall which is going to be much smaller than the wood box you have now. It'll be almost unseen because it'll be so close to the ceiling anyway.
