I spent much of this past weekend being a docent at my 'other garden'. Aside from the obligatory sunburn, I also learned how many people still go around with cameras. This inspired me to play around with my phone camera. The results weren't anything special, just roses.

My 'Festiva Maxima' is out, too! Hope it was an enjoyable weekend!

I like pictures of roses that not too many people grow.

Agreed, Melissa! Truly a photo gallery of collector’s roses.

Your photos are lovely, Bellegallica! I find it really challenging to capture pale yellows and whites.

We are the Festiva Maxima triplets! FM may be my favorite peony. Gorgeous picture!

I love those pics! More ! More! I studied them closely to see how many of the wild plants I could id, and see several that I have in my 'wild flower bed' and more that inhabit our woods. I espacially love the Dutchman's breeches. I have a plant that struggles each year, but very seldom even gets to the blooming stage. It won't again this year, because I clumsly trod on it while covering the neighboring hosta from the freeze awhile back. :-( I see either Erodium or Geraniums. And Dentaria, Toothwort(in bloom to the upper left of the picturesque tree remains), and a ginger to the lower right of same remains. I have U. grandiflora, and it is spreading nicely in the wild flowerbed, and elsewhere. I have no Mertensia, nor have I seen it in the wild here. Would love to have some. We have the Spring Beauties, but rather sparsely. More this year due to the loss of so many trees and limbs. Our two patches of 'yard' May Apples are really spreading, and I love it! I am thinking the 'twisted' tree had a very large grape vine strangling it. They do that here. Nolon has done considerable complaining about the grape vines in the trees he is cutting. I don't have red trilliums, but have Toadshade Trilliums. They will soon open their flowers. Do post more of your pics. Marian

Very pretty. I've recently fallen in love with hellebores. I've always had a couple of the short white ones and didn't realize until recently that there were so many beautiful colors and shapes. Edna sent me the most wonderful plum coloed one a while back. It's gorgeous. Karyn

Sherry, beautiful photos of a wonderful assortment of butterflies. You are so blessed to have the land and the environment to provide so much diversity of plant life for the little creatures. Since you mentioned the constraints of the software that came with your new camera, there is free photo editing software called Picasa 3 by google that is very good for basic editing, cropping and easy uploading. It allows you at least a gig of free web album space and provides the code to use to insert photos into the Gardenweb forums. This is what I use for much of my editing, cropping and uploading for use on-line. You might want to take a look at it since it's 'free'. No cost to evaluate and keep, if it meets your needs. Here's a link to my Picasa garden web album, that I've been adding to for a couple of years. Nothing special here but when I want to share a photo with a friend or insert code for a photo into a forum message, it's really quick and simple to do. This will give you an idea of how the photos present on-line. The nice thing is, as long as I leave the photo in the album, it will always display, no matter how old the forum message gets to be. With all of these photos, I've only used a small fraction of my free web album space. Thanks Everyone! My wife has always thought I took nice photos, so she encouraged me to get some nice gear and spend some time learning how to use it. Laura, We enjoyed the salsa. Your Echinopsis bloom this past year? Dawn, It did fine. The important things are in the house. Didn't want to chance it. Susan, We've always wanted to get a telescope, but never have for some reason. Amber is healthy now and slowly increasing her hours in the gym. She is focusing on getting all her skills back for competition next year. Took this the other day of her playing mama. :-) randy

Thanks for the lovely photos, mad, and I think Quadra is really stunning. You got that red with your phone. I still use a camera camera. I like the colors it produces better, but I'm just an old fogey. My Festiva Maxima is blooming, too. So here we are all over the US and Italy, enjoying the same peony at the same time. Mine doesn't have the little red spots so far, but it usually does. My FM is a passalong that came to me through many hands. The mother plant is about 100 years old. I have other antique peonies that came from the same person, my good friend's father, who died at age 100 years in 2017. He got his peony tubers from his in laws. Diane

Lovely photos! 'Festiva Maxima' is blooming here, too (and one of the few old ones that actually, reliably blooms here where there's not much in the way of cold temps during winter). Was my favorite while living in Massachusetts and I was very happy to find that I could grow it here, too.

It's interesting about the Festiva Maxima collusion.

There used to be more people growing 'unusual' roses because there used to be more geographic diversity. I feel like I've been holding down the cold end of the northeast for a while, and it used to be that I was at the warmer end of the cold people. So we get a year like this year, where a lot of the northeast is complaining about serious death and destruction, and I don't know what to say. This is the best year I've had in the garden in years.
