There isn't enough information to suggest a probable cause based on what we actually know about the plant's recent care, but based only on the odds, a recent change in light from brighter to dimmer and/or over-watering in the not too distant past would be the likely cause(s), either individually or collectively. its also possible .. that it was a HUGE transplant ... and its not being properly watered.. if only brandon had linked his own link ... lol .. but i will for him .. its a conifer ... all conifers shed their needles in 1 to 3 years .. and its always the oldest batch.. which as the plant grows.. are the interior ones ... such is increased by drought the prior year... severe winter .. and transplanting.. especially a huge transplant.. which is anything over 4 feet in my world ... insure proper water.. it is all that is needed ... as brandon noted.. if this years current growth starts browning... it is for sure not properly watered .. and it is severely stressed ... that is what you need to watch for ... ken Here is a link that might be useful: link

thats interior browning.. its NORMAL ... and its increased due to the stresses of transplant ... it does not help it was a HUGE transplant... and the black mulch does the stress no favor either ... based on what i see today.. in this.. pic.. there is nothing to worry about ... it will all fall off by itself... i dont know what you mean by damaged.. if branches cracked.. prune them off ... right now.. you can tell.. what are the live part... when those start losing regular color.. is when you start to worry ... you water a conifer/tree... WHEN IT NEED WATER... no when can tell you when ... you water deeply.. and then let it NEARLY dry ... take a hand trowel .... and dig a 3 to 6 inch hole.. and find out.. how YOUR SOIL reacts to the water ... we never want standing water ... once the root mass that was planted is dampened... you dont really need to water all that much.. as the soil will rarely dry.. below a few inches.. and that is why i want to to dig small holes and find out ... 2.5 hours a week of water... sounds like a lot... even on my glacial sand ... but again.. only you can find out ... ken

I have a small Fiddle Leaf Fig tree that I treasure. I live in Australia and it's the beginning of winter however I have two new leaves sprouting on my plant. I noticed some very small brown dots running along the veins of the new leaves. Should I worry?? I've done a bit of research but found nothing concrete on what the problem could be or how to treat it. I've also noticed that the soil has started to turn white on the surface, around the edges. It does not appear to be crystalized or furry. Are these two issues related? The plant sits by a large window in my kitchen. I water it once a week and the soil is always Damp. Could I be over watering? Could the plant be too cold? I love my tree so any advise is much appreciated! I've uploaded some pictures for reference.
