Thank you both very much for your input. Hough, was your granite on when you had the island moved? I thought of moving the island as well, we have about 52" inches of space between island and the counter, so we should have room. That's the other thing that bothers me, if we had any kind of site supervision to notice this even at cabinet install it would of been easy to move the island over. The hardwood flooring is also installed at this point but I don't believe the plumbing for sink is done yet. Should I push for this fix instead? Worthy, I'm happy your ceiling looking good after patching, and hope you have no more plumbing issues. :) That's the other thing, I know people have their ceilings patched and redone all the time, and they turn out good. I've never had that luck, lol We haven't been to the house at night to see how the lights really effect the lighting yet, but could tell when we turned them on at dusk that they shine over the sink and not so much at the seating area at all. As from the comments from guests, that was one of the first things I thought of, lol. My hubby has an old army buddy who's such a joy. He always loves to make rude comments about everyone's homes or cars. On our last house some of the rememberable comments were: "I don't like your granite, looks like a Dalmation." It was Alaska White. "So are these real hardwood, oh they are? So they'll be scratched to sh@& in no time". They weren't. "I liked your old backsplash better". When we replaced it after a really bad tile job. So I can only imagine his comments on the lights, lol. When we bought new vehicles he would comment on how he didn't like them and insult them as he drove a falling apart old minivan loaded with mounds of garbage abd junk and would tell us when he bought a vehicle he would buy a fancy Corvette. He said this for about 15 years and never did buy one. Finally about two years ago he did, and stored it in our garage in our house he didn't like. Don't know what hubby sees in this "friend" but unfortunately he will be around, lol.

Thank you both, this build has been a nightmare and they have repeatedly made mistakes due to extremely bad management skills and site supervision. They have gotten everything wrong. Wrong primer paint (bright yellow instead of gray), wrong doors, wrong glass in french doors, wrong trim, wrong stair railings, wrong hardware on drawers, fireplace framed wrong 4 times then tiled wrong, wrong counters, wrong bathtub, gas line for stove in wrong location, gas line on deck wrong location, sink templates in bathroom cut wrong, sump pump installed wrong, missing electrical switches for fireplace............ And that's only about 1/5th of their mistakes. Many of these things are now fixed but rarely how they should been but it all should of been avoided with any professionalism. This is also a very expensive home from a builder who claims to be custom and of "Highest quality and craftsmanship". I really don't understand why it's so hard for these "professionals" to get things right. I think we have put up with enough from this builder and I think Romy you are right about what we need to do. They have never even so much as apologized for any of it. Thank you for the vent. ;)

At my lumber yard they sell 1/2" thick clear poplar (they call it Jamb Liner, I think for the replacement window trade) and while not cheap, it is just what you need here; with any luck there is room for 1/2" jamb stock and then apply the casing of your choice. You could picture frame it, or use a stool and apron at the bottom. Best to employ a skilled mechanic. Casey

If you try to remove the aluminum edging, the existing problem will look trivial compared to the damage you will do. As I said before, if you want this to come out ok you'll get some professional help. You don't know what you don't know, and there are a couple of ways to screw this up if you've never done it before.
