I have the MW drawer. Yes, I would rather have a regular one installed in a tall cabinet at chest/neck height, but it didn't work in our kitchen so a drawer it was/is! The MW drawer has all the features of a countertop/regular MW (sensor cook, sensor reheat, soften, melt, defrost, etc.) so you will not be sacrificing MW functionality. A drawer is certainly better than a regular MW installed below counter. Even though we're a tall family, the MW drawer has worked well for us. The controls are angled up slightly and it's easy to lift things out of it. It's a snap if you have to stir something b/c you just open it, stir, and close it - even better than a regular MW. You also do not need a turntable or have to turn items in the MW as the technology makes both obsolete. We also use the MW a lot...with the exception of the refrigerator, it's probably the most used appliance in our home! BTW...The drawer does have a "child lock" so you can lock your children out for now. (It won't be long, though, b/f you'll want them to learn how to use the MW safely...probably another 5 years or so for the older child.) Oh, and unless it's a design issue, get the 24" one, it's the same size as the 30" and you gain another 6" to use for another cabinet (make one wider or add a 6" filler pullout). [The 30" has more trim to make it 30" wide...not a larger MW.]

Our drawer microwave is in the island at the end closest to the fridge. It's perfect. So much comes out of the fridge and goes into the microwave. And the island counter top above the MW makes a perfect loading/unloading zone for both the fridge & MW. The drawer under the MW holds stuff often needed in storage and/or cooking prep. Sandra

My island cabinet is currently being made with a 30" cabinet space for an in-drawer microwave. I have decided to purchase the Sharp black stainless steel product but it only comes in a 24" width. I understand that trim kits are available to adjust for 24 - 30 " but not available for this model. I also have found that there is a "flush mount deflector vent" for this model but I don't understand how this works, how mant I would need, or if it would be the answer to my problem. Appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks for all the feedback and the tips for searching the site. After reading everyone's comments, I'm thinking that the drawer MW is the way to go, probably purchased from ebay to get a good deal. I saw a mixer lift at a local home improvement store today, and I hated it! It was hard to reach the release and I think I'd have hit myself in the face with it as it popped up if it'd had a mixer sitting on it, so I think I'll just go with a pull out shelf for the mixer and lift it onto the counter myself. I'd probably use it on the counter, anyway, so that there wouldn't be flour and batter splatter inside the cabinet and so we wouldn't break the open cabinet door while using the lift.
