I am building a new home and am trying to decide on what kitchen appliances to go with. I would like to get some updated reviews/feedback from those with experience. Option 1: - Wolf 48" Duel Fuel Range - SubZero 48" Built in Side by Side Ref. - Bosch Dishwasher - Wolf Microwave Option 2: - Thermador Pro Grand 48" Duel Fuel Range - Thermador 30" Ref Column w/ 24" Freezer Column - Thermador Dishwasher - Thermador Microwave

Great Advice, PeterH2. I love the great big window on the Elux oven door, how cool the door stays, the huge (wavetouch display which "to me" is intuitive) and easily read without my glasses. Throw in the fully gliding out racks, (smooth as silk) even after 5 years, and an oven that understands "C" or "F" degrees, I have no idea what temp scale Miele's use, but it ain't one of the above-----Need proof, just do a search for Miele oven temperatures. Miele does make a great dishwasher however, We have the Optima, again for 5 years now and it has "somehow" managed to keep up with the reliability of my other Elux appliances---Speed Oven, Induction cooktop and wine fridge. I do not recommend buying Elux DW's or their fridges. As has been said , time and time again here, No appliance maker makes the best appliance for everything, Elux and Wolf have it right on the ovens, Miele the DW's. For a fridge I would at least look at the Jennairs, it is usually the #1 rated fridge for reliability per folks that responded to surveys by Consumer Reports, yep, top of the heap, can you guess who was on the bottom, reliability wise?, alto now I think they are 3 up from the bottom, at least last time I checked. If you are a serious cook, which your post seems to indicate, then U really have 3 choice, Capital, Blue Star and possibly American Range--all high powered open burner gas ranges--alto my induction unit will blow the socks off any of those when it come to boiling water, precise and instant temp control, ease of cleaning etc, but I do recognize that there are still "Gassers" in this World!! Good luck on your hunt, hope it works out as well for you as it has for us, 5 years later, and still no service calls cept for a loose handle on the speed oven. Gary

I understand it may be easier to fix, but does the problem still occur? " In Kalapointer's oven saga, it was at some point replaced with an M which they report here has chipped. "Well, I have waited since February 8th to have my M Pro double oven repaired. The enamel on the bottom of the oven was chipping and crazing." " Should an oven be able to handle self-cleaning mode, yes. But I can tell you from my experience many people have problems with their units after they've run self-cleaning mode (and this is across the board for modern brands), likely due to all the new microchips and electronics we use in modern ovens these days." Whether it is electronics or the blue enamel, if it doesn't work, don't promote it as a benefit and take it off until you get something that does work. "Coincidentally enough, I've never had a customer that experienced this chipping issue on Wolf ovens and I do sell quite a few. So I've not seen how it might arise yet the the real world. Doesn't mean it hasn't happened to these customers." No one knows how many have this problem except Wolf. From this forum, we know it has been ongoing for 10 years and some posters have had as many as 3 go bad not to mention one of the lawsuits mentioned a multiplicity of failures for one family. They were also talked into spending more money with Wolf to upgrade with the idea it would not occur and it still chipped. That has happened on this forum too. I feel if Wolf was sincere and it was truly a rare occurrence, they would upgrade the appliance at no additional cost for the inconvenience it causes and in at least one case someone cut their hand on the shards. My husband and I cook a lot. COVID made almost no difference in our eating out. We both cherish our excellent appliances. So yes, I do think it's worth it. After 20 years of military moves and getting to try out all sorts of kitchens and appliances, we knew exactly what we wanted and didn't want. **But, we made no attempt to "match" appliances by brand. They are matched by finish, and that's where you'll get the best bang for the buck.** Otherwise, we chose the best appliance for the job where it mattered. - So, the SZ fridge? Worth it. Getting identical for our new build. Produce lasts noticeably longer in this fridge than the standard brand one in our utility room when we've had to overflow. - The Wolf range? Worth it. Although we're upgrading to a Blue Star for the wokking in the new build, we've been able to cook things that would never work on any regular cooktop, such as paella. Getting that perfect crust and perfect rice - no problem. - The Wolf vent hood? No. We're still getting one (required for high power cooking) but less-expensive brand with the necessary CFM for the BS. The joist construction of the home is the limiting factor in this decision though. - The KA combo wall oven (micro/speed cook upper with true convection lower) - great buy and going strong at 15 years, but KA has suffered issues the past few years (enamel chipping like Wolf's issue, uneven temperature control) so we splurged on a Thermador for the new build which had the high temp (550F) requirement for pizza, as many only go to 450F. Saved money getting the BS rangetop instead of full range because we rarely use the range portion of our Wolf now that we don't eat meat. - Bosch DW - yes. We got the cheapest model because we simply don't use it very often and performance of a DW is not a priority as long as it works. Quiet was the only factor because we have an open floor plan.
