So true. My community had a Memorial Day parade and included many remembrances of those who served us. Its my birthday, too .

I always go to our community’s observances. The HS band plays, the scouts join the American Legion, and we often have someone from the nearby military facility speak or sing. It gets a good gathering. I often have to go for a little walk-around, because I get very teary at certain moments and, while I don’t think it would be inappropriate for me to let tears fall, i’d be a little embarrassed. (Curtain calls at shows do the same thing to me, but at least it is dark and there’s lots of noise!)

We've been wearing our poppies. We remember. I'm torn about saying Happy Memorial Day (you haven't done anything wrong! Everyone does it), but I can't figure a better thing to say?

I can't think of another way to say it either.

I don't remember her birthday falling on Memorial Day before this year tho - but I could be wrong.

We went to the National Cemetery earlier to lay flowers on my parents' and our friend's husband's graves. They have a huge ceremony there in the morning, so we usually wait to go in the afternoon, because traffic and parking is a nightmare otherwise.

It's a huge cemetery and every grave has a flag - hundreds and hundreds far and wide. Volunteers put them out every year - usually Boy Scout troops.

Minutes after reading this I saw I had an email from an old friend. Paraphrasing what he said, "Wishing you a grateful Memorial Day."

I really like that. Thanks food!

This is strange. I commented yesterday on Food's use of grateful and now it's gone. Or at least, I can't see it.
