We are leaning toward using wood for our approximately 3 x 8 island counter top. Our perimeter tops will be 2cm thick. The wood countertops I see all seem to be 1-1/2" thick or thicker. Is it impractical or unwise to do a wood top that is 3/4" or 1" thick? Our house is not farmhouse or country, so we want something less chunky than the typical wood tops. We like the wood top in the Devol kitchen below--it looks closer to 4/4. Do you have any suggestions of how to achieve a thinner profile? Is this something a carpenter can build? Thank you for your ideas.
