Kitchens Design Dilemma Appliances

We are getting all new kitchen appliances when we remodel our kitchen. We’ve picked KitchenAid for fridge, microwave, and dishwasher. But we want an induction slide in range and kitchenaid doesn’t have one. So we thought about getting a Cafe. Most likely we’d end up getting the stainless steel color. But it also comes in a white with brushed copper handles and knobs. It looks beautiful but I’m guessing it wouldn’t look right unless my other appliances match. Thoughts? Here’s a photo.

KA has an induction cooktop, and wall ovens. Or do a Bluestar in a color that isn’t stainless.

Unfortunately our kitchen is not big enough for wall ovens. Do you think a color that isn’t stainless will look ok if all other appliances are stainless? That’s what I was wondering about this Cafe range. I like the look a lot, but not sure if it looks ok having this color (Matt white/brushed copper) when all other appliances are stainless.

BM Dove White is a nice white because it can go with either warm or cool colors. that's the color I'm think of doing throughout my Cottage for the trim and moldings and I have a white kitchen also. In the end, I think any of the "pastel' whites would look pretty. I wouldn't worry about the white appliances being identical to the trim.

I can understand what you are going through. I wanted white appliances (and have them, though they are sitting in boxes in my exploded kitchen at the moment) but the cooktop I wanted only came in black with stainless edges. I went ahead and got the cooktop, changed the hood from white to stainless, and now I'm waiting to see it all come together. One thing to keep in mind is that many of these appliances will have other colors in them-- for example, our white ovens have huge black windows in them. So maybe you can consider a black cooktop to work with the counter and with any other black bits and pieces in the kitchen?

Not a pro here, but I have heard that this is not a uniform finish among manufacturers, so if you want your appliances to match, you will need to buy them all from the same manufacturer. Also, there are some maintenance issues. Apparently the black finish is placed over a stainless steel base and if your surface is scratched, the silver color shows. From an aesthetic point of view, I think your kitchen cabinets are beautiful and black appliances would distract from them. So, I affirm my “vote” for silver stainless steel! But then....I am just one opinion! Good luck!

Yes, I just did this very thing. I had to replace a frig & dishwasher last year and thought I'd get a stainless slide-in range when we remodeled our small kitchen. That was until I saw the CAFE double oven slide-in range. Then all bets were off. I changed the color of the cabinets to showcase the white matte range. and it still looks good with stainless frig & DW. (A lighter green/blue - name: SW Comfort Gray) What helps is that the appliances are on different walls. I'll try to get some photos.

What color(s) is your cabinetry and what finishes are you current hardware and plumbing fixtures? These will also make a difference in whether it not you can get away with mixing a white range with stainless steel.

We don’t have anything picked out yet. We are either going to have all white cabinetry or white uppers (and surrounding the fridge) and wood stained lowers. We were going to have black finishes (though open to another color). Not sure about plumbing yet.

Note that Kitchenaid is a Whirlpool brand and nearly-identical products are often sold under both brands. For example, the Whirlpool WMH53521H ($350) is slightly better than the Kitchenaid KMHS120E ($450) and the Whirlpool WMMF5930PZ ($470) is nearly the same as the Kitchenaid KMMF330PSS ($650).

Likewise, the Whirlpool WRF767SDHZ ($2200) and Kitchenaid KRFF577KPS ($2900) are nearly identical except for appearance.

If I were doing this range I may make it the focal point, leaving all the cabinets one color. With white uppers and wood lowers and the white range and stainless elsewhere it may be too many colors.

Thanks. Since I haven’t designed the kitchen or purchased anything yet, how could I make this range work with the other appliances being stainless? All white cabinets? What color pulls and fixtures? Note - I’ll likely end up getting this range in stainless, but just wanted to see if I could pull off the white before I do.

Why are you picking all Kitchenaid? Go with the best product for each appliance.

And I agree. You need a kitchen designer. Not a cabinet salesperson but an actual kitchen designer.

Bluestar does not have an induction range, but they do have an induction cooktop in stainless. I don't think I'd mix the white/copper of the Cafe with the other stainless appliances. Get a Bosch induction range in stainless and be done.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m now thinking of keeping my existing fridge and dishwasher and upgrading later. This will allow me to spend more on a range. I’m also looking at a Bosch range that gets good reviews.
