Design Dilemma Landscape Design

how to landscape side of house

This side of my house looks so unfinished. We will eventually do an addition but for now, it houses our garbage cans and hose in the summer. Any ideas on how to spruce this up? Maybe pavers and those white lattice dividers for cans and then some mulch and flowers to the right?

You didn't say what side of the house or show a better relationship to the home or neighbors.

while you are waiting on the new addition, Buy a ready made trellis and plant a couple clematis plants and get 3 very large resin potts and plant some colorful annuals.

This is the side of my house next to driveway and a very clear view to my neighbors yard! Our property line goes to their driveway. Would love to also create some privacy between the areas. But first we will be doing a fence from the back of the house over to shed. Our to do list is so long.

Nice you don't have to use that stuff there.me too.And, I always think every plants is ugly as long as it don't match it's master;a plant is beautiful just it match. Before any suggests,I should know where is your landscaping?how long time sun light?or where the landscaping face?any drain or irrigation problem? I would consider a group of trees -- like river birch -- in a triangular arrangement at the outside of the walk, starting 15' to 20' from the house. And one flowering tree -- like a crab -- at right of the drive in the front yard.

I would leave it in place permanently :-) Both the newspaper or cardboard will degrade and eventually disappear so there is no need to remove. But how long it will take to actually smother the grass, killing the root system, may take a bit longer than you expect. That doesn't mean you cannot plant in it before it is fully dead - only that the ability for the grass to resprout if it is disturbed is increased if the roots have not yet been fully killed off. I'd check after a couple of weeks but a month or even two should give much better results.

Lovely house! I think you already have a nice established front foundation start. I might try adding some colorful annuals in the front of the beds for color and potted tall topiaries or boxwoods flanking the front door. Would you consider replanting a small tree in the spot where you lost one? For the side a mix of box woods and rhododendrons might be nice and I like the idea of using old fashion/ traditional plantings with your house.

Wow pretty. We are not :) but are looking to do a fire pit and seating area, kinda like that, in the backyard.

Wow I love that! Thank you! I think we will def at least start with the dividers and a row of plants with mulch for now and possibly do pavers
