Area Rug Suggestions
I need a new area rug in my tv room/reading room/home office. The one we have currently is sisal and showing signs of wear.
The configuration of the house is changing and so there will be less traffic in the area and probably more lounging.
I’m looking for a woolly, more plush floor surface to cocoon in. The paint and wood undertones of the sideboard are yellow/gold.
My personality embraces contrast . . . in life, love, and home.
I’m looking for an investment piece because I might move to a downsize eventually. My upstairs living room sofa is gold and I love it. If the carpet were something that could tie-in or even go with that sofa, it would be a bonus.

Comments (5)Thanks everyone for the thoughtful/helpful suggestions, particularly the rug colour/patterns! As well, I do plan to purchase an additional chair and floor lamp for the LR and will position it as suggested! I have a few follow-up questions, and since some of you have been generous to provide some additional advice on how to use my space, I'd like to expand the conversation somewhat to follow up on those recommendations as well: It seems like the consensus is that a separate rug for the dining set isn't recommended? (works for me since I really like my floors) There also seems to be agreement that the LR rug should be at least large enough that the front legs of my couch are sitting on it; am I also correct in assuming the LR rug shouldn't be large enough that it reaches the rear legs or wall? I've considered rotating the table since it would create more space for the LR area; however, there is a leaf for the table and the room isn't wide enough to fully extend the table. Although I won't often use the leaf and could just as easily rotate the table lengthwise on occasions when I need the extra table space. Given this, would you still recommend rotating the table? They do have it in a 10x13. Just to get an idea: Lots of places sell this, just search ’Ralph Lauren Tristan rug’. 10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoI have that first rug in gold, and while I Iike it for my sitting area and it’s exactly the look I want, it’s not what I’d recommend in your case. It’s not plush, it’s an indoor/outdoor rug, and is quite thin.

Are you wanting to go in a more traditional rug style (like Persion or Oriental) or stay modern? Or other?I love your gold couch! It’s fabulous.

10 months agolast modified: 10 months agoI’m a huge Kilim fan and like that idea a lot, especially with your furnishings and tile. I have three Kilim rugs and lots of pillows! They’re classic.
Off to hunt and hopefully others see this and weigh in, too. :)
ETA: Sundance has some beautiful rugs, but again they might be more thin than you’re wanting.

10 months agoYour furnishings and wall color would look nice with a mid century modern style. I would do a white or off white rug with grey and yellow pillows to complete the look. You can also add a camel leather armchair
