We are planning to paint our living room white and stain the hardwood flooring-lighter. Please share pics /ideas on we can decorate the living room.

Can you give some example how would you design this living room if this was you? I am a beginner at this so really need help.

Search on houzz for photos to find a sense of style. Just make an idea book and add everything that you like. After a while you’ll develop a sense of what style and colors you like. Meanwhile,to get layout suggestions, you’ll need to provide a measured floor plan. You can learn how to draw that on YouTube. If you want useful suggestions here you need to do all that. And let us know the purpose and number and age of users of this room. And pics of any furniture that you have that you are determined to reuse. And a budget. I don’t think the pros here will ‘design this room as if it was you’ because without more info it’s a total waste of time.

i am not a pro... but I have similar situation with lighter couches than yours but lots of natural light and light wood floors, tried accessible beige (100%. and 75%), agreeable grey, natural choice, neutral ground, shoji white and one or two others. In process of painting with pearly white at 115%... it's very different than what we had but I really like that it's warm white, but still crisp look and goes well with lots of elements and looks great with my Naval walls in adjacent library and navy accents.. Many of the other colors looked nice during the day but came off pretty dark and more color forward at night even with lighting.

There are reasons why most people center the couch, but most people also prefer sitting on a good one. :) I guess I'd try putting the couch where the armchair is now (but extending into the corner), the two recliners where the couch is, and the armchair where the chair/lamp combo is on the right of the photo. I think that the seating would still work for conversation, but you would have the recliners facing the TV (and, honestly, the couch facing the view!). The main drawback would be having to walk around the end of the couch, but I don't think it would be a big deal once you got used to it -- be sure to put some light in the corner though. You could also put a short console behind the couch so it's not such a cold back to the dining room, if so desired.

There is too little info to help. We need a to scale floor plan I find it easier to do those plans on graph paper. Show every window , doorway and where those doorways lead . Every measurement clearly marked post her ein jpeg format Info as to how manty seats on a day to day basis do you need, we do need to know if a TV will be there .Is your style. Make sure you show the whole kitchen layout since that impacts the space . Please DO NOT start another post just use comments here

Since the picture shows the previous owner's furniture we don't know what your style is. You can always paint or white wash the brick. Here are some pictures I have saved that show a fireplace and TV next to each other to give you some ideas. I wouldn't recommend shiplap unless this is a property on the water. Shiplap in a tract home is a trend that is over. But you can see that by closing up the openings in the wall and applying different types of molding and mantels you can get different looks.
