Do concrete paints (drylock) actually work?
Comments (29)I have seen many a dryloked basement where the drylok was peeling and a black mold was growing behind it or showing through as a dark stain usually towards the bottom of the wall. My applications on basement walls and floors is always with Hydroseal 75. This is a waterbase epoxy that is mixed 1 to 1 prior to paint on application. One great feature is it is odorless and another is it is applied with paint rollers and brushes. I always paint out a rollers lenght on the floor and if there is a gap where the floor meets the wall I mix concrete sand mix into the Hydroseal 75 and make a mortar that I can force into the gap or joint with the back of a spoon. Then two coats over the entire area I am coating does the trick. 1 day to apply 2 coats and patching , all with one product. I have not found anything better and easier to apply or anything that stops water better. This is easy epoxy to work with, has no smell, comes with an anti microbial added so it will not support mold growth and is sold in singles gallons or pails so you can buy as little as you like or do a test area with a gallon. I use the gray almost always but it is available in white as well. The white can be pigmented with universal tint. I have also mixed it with hydraulic cement in very wet situations where the concrete was to wet to let the Hydroseal dry, and I have sprayed the Hydroseal 75 through an airless spayer to do a stone foundation over 100 years old. Mostly though I roll it and patch with it. this stuff works great and there is a need for this type of product. Not all coatings peel off; like the guy said above, you need a coating that is used in elevator pits that can stand high amounts of pressure like Hydroseal 75...See MoreRestoration Hardware Outdoor Teak Furniture
Comments (8)No, I didn’t buy it. I read so many reviews about it that said it just didn’t hold up. And that’s both the wood and the cushions. You can search here on Houzz and see many comments about it. I also considered Pottery Barn, but read much of the same and it is very expensive also. I seem to love the look/design of both these retailers, but in the end I just couldn’t pay that much money and risk it not holding up. I ended purchasing Summer Classics. It seemed to have much better reviews and after looking at it at a store, even a novice like me could tell the difference in the weight, finish and overall quality. Time will tell, and I can keep you posted about it!...See MoreOutdoor furniture on grass
Comments (17)Because you could put a "rug" on the grass doesn't mean you should. An actual rug will get really icky fairly quickly. A better "rug" purchase idea might be artificial grass rather than a traditional rug, even an indoor/outdoor one. If you want the area where you set the sofa and chairs level -- whether grass or artificial turf or gravel, then you m ight want to outline the area you choose for the sofa, etc., with pavers and raise the back of the space to make the area on which the sofa sits more level -- but leave the area behind it and beside it sloped. A short knee wall behind the sofa with just the beginning of a corner/side could help with this: a " [ " shaped knee wall behind the sofa -- and you could still leave the area grassy but more level. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/336995984586777804/ If you create a planting area below the knee wall to hide the wall, it could visually disappear and keep the green space vibe you seem to seek for your outdoor living room.. You might also consider not leaving the sofa in the exact same place every day. Could you pick three places and move the sofa from one to the other every couple of days? Would what the sofa is made of mean it would be practical to add wheels to make it easier to do that? You might also consider not keeping the entire set together. For instance, the coffee table would block any sunlight that might otherwise shine on the first several inches in front of and beneath the sofa early/late in the day. Ditto that the chairs from the side. Another idea might be a raised treated wood deck with pea gravel beneath it; however, low decks can have moisture issues and attract pests that wan to hide beneath them, including snakes. Would not really recommend this....See MoreOutdoor furniture retailers-quality
Comments (21)I’m also in the PNW so can relate to the rain issues. I bought Cane-line (Danish company) furniture over 11 years ago and it still looks brand new. It’s a woven resin type that stays outside all year round. I do bring the cushions in over the winter and they are on a covered deck spring through fall. It wasn’t the cheapest furniture, I think about $2500 Cdn for a loveseat, two chairs and a coffee table, but averaged over 11 years (so far) I think it’s been worth every penny....See Morevinmarks
