Painting trim is expensive. Doing all your trim and doors in Collingwood will limit your choice of colors should you decide down the road that you want a new color for your walls.

I wouldn't do it in my house, but this is your house so you should do what looks good to you.

I would also suggest that all the trim and doors be painted the same color. The fireplace would need to be painted too, because, its white and you are painting all the white out. Actually, I would have had all the trim in the house white, since, it would go with any color you decided to paint, now or in the future.

I would just be painting the trim in this back wall  space area.  I feel like it will add an interesting design element but my husband feels like it will "stop one's eyes" at the colour vs. looking through white doors and glancing straight into the backyard.

I am not one that believes all the trim in a contemporary house needs to be one color throughout. The trim in each room matches the wall color in each room of my house. Yes it would be expensive to repaint the trim if I wanted a different wall color. But my doors are all spray lacquered in a shop anyway, so I doubt I will ever change room colors. It keeps me committed and non fickle.

Anyway, I think the entire end wall of your house in the wall color would look good, even if you keep the other base the trim color of the rest of the house.

What do u think about the trim around the doors in the Collingwood like the walls everywhere else and the contrasting colour for just the doors?  I don't know the design rules but my husband is fixated on it drawing his eyes to the doors vs white..which draws the sight to the outdoors.

I think painting the doors and the windows above them all the same color as the wall on the left is a good idea. Then the expanse of doors and windows reads more like the rest of the room, and most importantly, I think that the continuity of the grey, will lead your eye out through the glass to the view beyond.
(The current white acts as more of a visual interruption to the outside in my opinion. We discovered this with fencing our yard, the darker color disappears into the landscape, whereas the white becomes a feature of it.)
I would leave all of the trim the white color because I think you will miss the contrast it provides if you tone it down with a darker color, nvm the limitations that will impose in the rest of the house.
