Help us style and furnish our porch

The 1992 country house we purchased a few months ago has a massive back porch and i have no idea where to start. We are in central Florida so we won’t be spending a tremendous amount of time back here in the summer unless the thunderstorms cool it down - there are ceiling fans and we could add more. i am clueless but im thinking seating, a dining area - maybe something very large to accomodate Thanksgiving - maybe some summer kitchen or grill stuff? we do have cats that enjoy coming out here as well. help me houzz community! The pink areas on the diagram are all french doors.

I would definitely break it into separate areas.

Dining, conversation, gaming,

Find two very large rugs ruggable.com for washable/weather tolerant rugs to create defined areas, even a runner down the hallway to soften the space and take the edge off.

the rugs will dictate the style and color direction... then paint the space to compliment, create the space you want to live in, not just decorate. you'll use it if you love it.

then build the needed seating on/each rug. there are a lot of battery powered lamps out in the universe, use table lamps for ambient lighting and battery operated candles. Have fun!

Your house has a formal, elegant look to me, so I think tall, narrow pots would look nice (and fit in the space better). Or urn style. But not taupe, which would blend in too much. Maybe compromise: the shape he likes, the color you like? If you decide on shorter, round ones, I wouldn’t do a bold color. I’d do dark brown, black, or matte copper, for instance. Round plus a bright color wouldn’t match with your house style, IMO. If you decide on tall, narrow pots, they can certainly be softened up with plantings. Tall and round would look nice, too ... ———————————— Too much blending! Tell him no taupe. :D

Hi, Lori. One can't go wrong with a sofa and two armchairs. But if you have a family, sectionals are great, too. Modern farmhouse typically incorporates wood, natural texture and a light color palette, such as below: My recommendation is to decide on your furniture lay out, then buy a rug that will define the seating area. If you would like help with furniture arrangement, we'll need measurements. Photos of all four walls are also helpful.

Can you do a drawing of the room, with all doors and windows included, with the fireplace, too? Then give the size of the pool table. Does the pool table have to stay right where it is? I have difficulty seeing how to incorporate the fireplace into the sitting area with the pool table where it now sits. It might work better if the pool table is turned 90 degrees and sits in front of the window, instead. Then there can be a couch and chairs sitting in front of the fire, with the TV on the side wall.

You will not have room for the swing. I wanted a swing, also. Had to choose between couch or swing. Plus you need empty space for movement. Depending on how you like your flooring, you could go with the smaller rug in just the seating area while letting the floor show in other places. Or go with the larger rug to hide. Although my porch is larger than yours (13 x 20), we have a similar lounging set, and our porch has multiple house windows and support post. We put our dining table on the patio. We went with a larger rug for the seating area and still have a good bit of the porch floor showing. I'd be glad to post photos for you so that you can get some ideas.

I learned yesterday that the strip closest to the back yard DOES get wet when we have our hard thunderstorms so that would include the skinny hallway. its screened and the majority of the porch will stay dry.

As far as painting, thats the back of the house exterior so shouldnt it stay the color of the house? With that said, its very neutral so we could bring in any color palette we want.

The single french door in the middle leads to the kitchen so a large dining table should probably be close to that as well as any summer kitchen items whether it just be a long table or outside frig or ???? I confess I’m more of an inside girl which is why i am a little lost on outside design- but Im branching out!
