Many of us have been in your place, wondering which white is right. Only you can really determine what looks good in your space with your light. And of course, the light changes throughout the day. I can only recommend that you begin to winnow it down with large chips, then get sample quarts of the best ones, maybe 4 or 5. Paint something large, like a piece of foamcore so you have enough to look at. Let it sit for a day in one place so you can see the various conditions before you move it to another place. One thing I discovered made it more confusing: It's easy to compare one color against another, but it's meaningless because the color has to work in your space, not against a competitor. So, make sure there is some separation between your finalists. Good luck. Even after I made my final decision, I second-guessed myself for a week or so. But in the end, I love the one I chose (BM Cloud White).

Hi Lori, Color chip is a great tool to narrow down your color choices. When you’ve narrowed it down to a few finalists, pint samples are there to help you. We recommend painting a poster size board and move it around the room to see how light and other surrounding environment effects the color. View it in the morning, afternoon and at night with your lights on. Switch out to another color and which one you like better. That doesn't answer the question. You started out labeling the color chips with "bluer undertones" and "redder undertones" when they were compared to each other. Then when another set of colors were introduced to the mix, when the context for a narrow one-on-one comparison was changed, you changed how you categorized Stonington to "subtle yellow tones" when paired with blues. And that begs the question, so what about when it's not paired with blues? So, if depending on context, Stonington can have "bluer undertones" or "subtle yellow tones" why assign absolute "undertones" or "tones" in the first place? And "Sea Froth 2107-60 looks redder next to Barren Plain" but we don't get any more clarification about Barren Plain's attributes specifically. When asked to clarify, your solution is to go buy samples, paint them, and move them around the room. Because now - all of sudden - the light matters. Whereas when you were so definitively labeling and categorizing the colors by bluer undertones, redder undertones and yellow tones the light wasn't a factor --- then. .... but now it is. Apparently the only way out is to randomly go buy samples, shuffle through the painted boards and hope one of the colors in the stack works. At least I think that's what you're saying. (And just to be clear none of this has anything to do with Color DNA. Color DNA refers to color measurements and resulting spectral data/color data values.)

I wonder what she ended up using. I have Simply White kitchen cabinets and I love the white. I’m getting ready to paint the walls in the front of the house (open concept) which is Revere Pewter right now. I love the color but it’s time for a glow up 😀to brighten the space. I’m wondering if going with Simply White on the walls as well as my cabinets will be a mistake. After the Revere Pewter tone for several years I just need some brightness.

Patricia - I'm not looking to match an existing color in the room, rather want a Benjamin Moore paint COLOR but for Cabinet Coat (Pro. painter said to pick a color from Kelly Moore). Lori - Thank you for the detailed info. We are getting our (South Faced) kitchen cabinet painted. We have Cloud White (OC -130) on the walls, and looking for a white/off white color for the cabinets. Something that is not to stark, too yellow, or too pink! Some of the folks had suggested we match cabinets to the shutter colors (two windows in kitchen), however we prefer not to as it is an older K.M. paint color (Western Acoustic) which has a lot of yellow in it. We did swatches, and the best colors are Simply White /OC-117 and Could White/OC-130, with Simply White being the nicer of the two choices. However, since due to the base of each different paint manufacturer, paint matching can be a hit or miss, the Sales Reps (with over 20 years of experience. at K.M.) said that Pickett Fence was a close match to S.W. Main- Thank you for that info. It's extremely helpful. Will pass on the info. to our paint guy.
