An idea might be to make the window a full length window next to the French doors, so looks consistent across the wall.

It’s worth the framing change to go with a three panel door.

Header and framing change would be better, but failing that? Single fixed pane window, same as french doors.

Are you going to do it twice? which looks better to YOU?

I'd put in two sets of french doors. you don't have to use both, but it would look great.

I need to see what the new kitchen looks like where the windows were. I love big windows in kitchens so why not make those not full but run across above the counter where they are . I need to see the kitchen plan for sure. I aslo think a new header to get proper french doors would be my choice for the left side. Where will those french doors lead to? Since you have never needed them before it is important to get the space outside big enought to handle the new door swing too unless you do not mind losing that space inside .

@kazzh Would a single window next to the french door look ok? a 5' window would fit.

@Rachel Lee A 6' opening is the largest I can have. The header is a double 2x8. A framing change would let me move where the opening is but not expand it unfortunately.

@JAN MOYER Thanks for the picture. That's the first I've seen of such a thing. It looks ok to me. The second picture looks bettern and I could do with a framing change as long as the side windows are less than 5' total.

@Lyn Nielson I could put in two 5' french door, but there isn't room for two 6'. Not a bad idea though. It's the simplest solution I've heard yet. Thanks!

@Patricia Colwell Consulting I added a layout of the kitchen. I can't put a run of windows across the counter because I need electrical outlets and backsplash there. The french doors would lead into the back yard nad they will swing out. What are proper french doors? I can fit a 6' one in there without a header change?

Two 5' French doors. Gives the most flexibility with furniture set-up, too.

I would reframe around the doors and use sliding doors instead. They are so much easier for window coverings. Don't forget to allow space to stack the drapery panels.

So many questions not answered The window above the counter can be not right at the counter so you could still have the window just not sitting on the counter , How have you been accessing the patio now?

Just do two 5' foot french, divided light if you like, solid no divide.......and call it a day.

Slide is FAR more convenient and allows a screen for more conveniently. The in and out is easier. No space impediment, either in or out

A window CAN be counter height. You change the window and run the counter inside the framing.
