May I ask, why you need to paint the brick? In your pictures, the brick looks like the best part of your house. Not liking the roof at all.

I'm not usually a fan of painting brick, but that roof is really overwhelming. How about doing a limewash on the brick in white? Then paint the shutters and the front door black. These are larger two-story homes, but it will give you an idea of the look:

Why do you need to paint the brick? Why did you choose a silver roof? Leave the brick as is. Fix the walkway and landscaping. Get a better front door and paint it a color that makes it visible from the street. If you paint the brick you're stuck forever

@kck910 bc there was foundation work done and we can’t match the mortar perfectly.

Also, we bought the house with the metal roof on it already, I didn’t choose the color.

@sabrina I do love this look.. my only fear is I’ve seen it done where it doesn’t look great so I’d have to be super confident that whoever is doing it knows exactly how.

The roof is probably great for sun reflectivity and keeping your home cooler in the summer. Where are the foundation cracks and how extensive are they? I am wondering if you can camouflage them in some other way that has less of an impact on your whole home. Could you paint the mortar lines brick red to blend with the bricks and then plant a shrub in front?

@Kendrah a couple of comments up you’ll see the cracks.. they’re pretty extensive and they’re on the back side of the home. Cracks are within the bricks and not just the mortar. All of the masons we talked to said we need to paint the brick for best results to camouflage.

I think a cream with the blue on the door. Or blue with cream.

Are there glass block windows on either side of the door? Is it for privacy? If so, I would use a reed glass instead. I would also take off the shutters.

I think choosing a white that goes well with your roof color will take the focus away from the large roof.

I would have had a dark roof like charcoal or something like that I would paint the house a green but you're going to have maintenance on that brick or a blue why not try a colored door and live with the brick that way? The house is going to be more on the organic side if you don't paint it and paint a green door or something or a blue door or even a black door

Is the damaged brick, in more than one spot? Wondering, if you could put a trellis there, and not have to paint the brick. The brick is pretty and its also pretty much maintenance free. Since its in the back, wondering, if it could be integrated into a landscaping feature, where the damage is.

We are selling the home so I was hoping to do something more permanent. If we were staying this would be a great idea! We will be disclosing all foundation work and repairs.

Since you’re selling, I’d strongly advise against changing the brick. Let the next buyer decide. They may change the roof, may prefer natural brick, etc.

I’d personally never consider buying a painted or limewashed brick home in this style.

Paint an entire brick house because of one shoddy repair??? Good grief, do they not know how to repoint and/or repair or color match and touch up the messy spots so they are concealed and blend in with the existing brick/mortar. If its that one spot in some out of the way location, just find someone artistic who can scrape off the sloppy spots and touch it all up in a way that it doesnt look so obvious.

I would just do the trim and the shutters in a soft light silver gray (not white). Or that Oslo Blue above - that could be your shutters and doors. If youre selling the house though - dont do anything, just get someone with more expertise/creativity who could repair that one spot.

I would actually keep the brick color and paint the roof black. Add black shutters, a black cottage door, some colorful flowers, and a picket fence to give the home a classic timeless cottage look!
