Slug beer traps have worked well for me, even with a cheap beer. Might be worth a try as long as your slugs don't have discrimanating tastes ;-)

They work in so far as slugs and snails fall in and die. But I have found that as soon as there are a few dead ones in there no more come. So the beer needs changing often. I also wonder if they actually attract slugs which otherwise wouldn't have gone into that area. Personally I would rather drink the beer myself. The only things I have found which work are constant, assiduous hunting in any possible hiding places and ferric phosphate pellets (organic). All the other 'methods' such as egg shells, coffee, sharp sand, etc have zero effect in my experience.

I just saw this article from our OSU (Oregon) Master Gardener Facebook page. Instead of beer, bread dough slurry. There was a warning to keep your dogs away from the bread dough.

My suspicion would be the same as for beer traps in that the dough is an attractant. It would also, I assume, attract rodents.

FWIW, it's interesting that slugs evidently don't like crawling over wool. You can look that up. As a result, mulching with wool can be an effective and long-lasting slug deterrent. You can probably go get some cheap wool at a second-hand store, and you can buy wool pellets for gardening.

Yes, you can buy wool expressly for this purpose. (Raw wool that is, not yarn, so I don't think you'd get it at a second hand shop). But I have seen snails happily eating plants inside the wool defences on my neighbour's allotment. He had gathered his from local fields. Plenty of sheep round here.

I imagine the molluscs could simply crawl under the wool?

And I do agree that the iron phosphate slug & snail bait is the most effective - I didn't find it overly pricey, but I did not buy Sluggo, I bought another brand from a local home improvement store.One bag has lasted me for a few years.

It seemed to eliminate those pests in my garden, I haven't had any trouble with snails and slugs for years now.

I used beer traps, sunk in to ground level using old tuna cans. The cans were practically full of snails the next morning. I also use Sluggo and another brand with the same ingredient - iron phosphate.
