Clump Spiritual Corridor One unknown daylily and it's a double..to kewl :-) One Allium Gladiator..Love alliums Pulmonaria Mrs Moon..Thank you...lost this one a few years back. Sedum John Creech Sedum Weinstephaner Gold both zoned for 4..Ya Baby!!Oh and ladies small sedums make great ground cover. Icicle Pansy,Purlpe..my oldest always picked out pansy's for his plants for garden,when he was younger.So you couldn't have picked a better plant to send. Echeveria Harmsii...have to look this one up..have no idea about this one..houseplant I know. Bag of Miracle Gro for feeding the dayliles,with a measuring spoon too. Cute anything was a Stained Glass Pot Hanger,a flower pot with a yellow daisy.So pretty Daylily marker...oh man how did you know?? PAINT PEN I needed a new one so bad..to kewl..I can mark all kinds of dayliles..without swearing...LOL Bag of Candy..Boy oh boy..she sent a BAG with all kinds of candy..a big bag of Peanut M&M's(my fav)MamaG don't look I really don't like pain M&M's.a bag of Jelly Bellys a bag of penny candy and Sarris Candy bar..now this one is made local in her area..can't wait to try it.. and then,and then she sent Birdbird a treat too..How sweet is that..Fresh walnuts..He ate every last piece of the one I gave him today.. Very pretty stationery(bird,go figure) with note and list of all she sent...BIG HUGS..OH BIG BIG HUGS TO YOU DAWN.. Planted most of it today with get the rest in the ground tomorow. Blfenton, Worry not! There are people who abjure navy blue suits too!! It's okay not to like oak! But, yes, it's probably worth mentioning your dislike if called to critique it. I do that with things I consult on. Sometimes it's something that I know I have a prejudice against, like the colors melon and mint together. I just hate the combination! I know that people love it because they do it all the time, so I bow out and say that if they want to go that direction, they have to make their own judgements. I've always agreed with you about making the kitchen go with the style of the house, but I'm trying to wrap my head around classic. Interesting thought. ... That's what I meant up thread when I described the fantastic, inexpensive kitchen in the tiny Hollywood flip. The kitchen was obviously new, but it was pretty much the kind of look you'd expect to see in that kind of house. Slight change of doorstyle with new cabinets, obviously new style appliances, but the overall look very first half 20th C. and proportioned correctly for the small house. Jilly, I was thinking about the disco jeans. Sexpot cabinets, instead of sexy. Thinking about gold. Into my mind's eye pops something straight out of the '60's: White Provincial cabinets with raise lozenge panels, gold picked trim, and gold mirror marbled with gold veins. Sexpot cabinets, definitely. :) Ghastly, but kind of cool in a space that can carry it off. :)

Finished a rather fun read of Love Among the Butterflies by Margaret Fountaine, a collection of her diary entries which detail her wide travels across the world collecting butterflies (and sometimes men). [grin] Fountaine was a vicar's daughter (I think) who grew up at the tail end of Victoria and the beginning of Edwardian days, and as she was not married, she found herself somewhat unoccupied. She started to collect butterflies, and after a while, became a serious entomologist and traveled across the world adding pieces to her large collection. (Lots of overlaps with Edith Holden here.) So - clearly, this is an unorthodox woman for the times: she travels widely to countries not familiar to a lot of people back then, she ends up having a long-term relationship (and traveling with) a man from Syria, she becomes an expert in butterflies... It's quite admirable just how far she pushed acceptability in female terms back then, but it did come with a price. She really struggles to reconcile her love of freedom with the cultural expectations of the time with regard to spinsters and marriage and "suitable" partners. Despite all her travel experience, she stays curiously unhappy throughout her life (at least as told in these entries). She is very defensive all the time, but was heartless to those who kept her close to their hearts. Her Syrian lover could not be publicly acknowledged for many years, and although they travel and work well together, she insisted on them having different rooms and standards (despite their relationship), and she could never grasp that he was in love with her for realz. In their rather frequent seperations, she would drive herself to distraction imagining various horrible scenes involving him and an accident or another woman etc. Fountaine does acknowledge in her diaries that she adores her freedom, but anything that seems to threaten that state of affairs immediately puts her into a tailspin of being mean to her family, friends and lovers, of acting selfishly and generally being a bit of a pinhead. However, just because she was rather an unkind person doesn't make this book any less fascinating. The illustrations taken from her diary pages are intriguing to look at: her writing is immaculate with very few errors and she justifies her handwriting on every page. (Goodness - how to do that without making a crossing-out every now and then, who knows?). She had volumes of diaries and numerous boxes of butterfly specimens that she bequeathed to a museum, but only with the condition that the museum administration do not open the diary box for 40 years after her death. This agreement was stuck to, and so they waited for the correct time. Thus were found the diaries. So - good read overall. Woodnymph - you mentioned earlier that you had a copy but it was only a paperback and had type that was difficult to read. Would you like me to send you this copy? I have a bunch of teddy bear sunflowers I started from seed- I bought as many fuzzy varieties I could get my hands on- they came up but need sunlight so bad ! I so want to move north!! Even in the pan handle, i don't care! I hate this rain it's sickening & depressing. In the Deep S. we only have to dig up tubers once every 2-3 years to increase vigor & blooms which is good bc I'm kind of lazy - lol
