SHARP Microwave Drawer Experience

Hi everyone,
We have already purchased our major appliances. However, as we near finalizing our kitchen remodel, we have decided to consider a microwave drawer.
Anyone have experience with the Sharp microwave drawer? Specifically this model?
SMD2477ASC 24” Microwave Drawer™; Hidden Control Panel; Automatic Drawer Opening System
Online reviews are not great, however, I doubt too many people leave reviews when kitchen appliances are working well!
We currently have a 2.2 cubic counter microwave and wonder if this drawer version will feel tiny and not able to warm a standard dinner plate.
Please let me know your experiences! Thank you.

I've had mine for 5 years with no issues. I use it almost daily.

CR tested the similar Sharp SMD3070ASY (all drawer microwaves are manufactured by Sharp and the interior dimensions are all the same) and its performance was so-so though "speed of heating" was 4/5. The oven does not have a turntable. I suppose you could install a microwave wall oven instead but the control panel would be hard to read as it would be perpendicular to the floor, its door would swing out, and it would be hard to load/unload the food. Undercounter location is definitely limiting.

We also have a 120V advantium (ours is OTR) and really like it. The newer ones seem even better than ours, but ours works just fine. We use it more for microwaving and regular baking (rather than speedcooking) but we do use the speedcooking capability from time to time. From what I understand, the new ones have a rack that can go in which I really like the idea of - my one caveat to ours is that it has only the turntable, on which you need to fit your baking dishes - not always the easiest size to fit. We did have problems with the bulb about a year into owning it, but we didn't bother replacing it at that time. It had a big circuit board problem though about 2 months ago which was pretty expensive to fix - that said, from what I understand our experience was atypical (and may have been a power surge issue). In addition, there is an online site (I think it was instuctables.com) that explains how to replace the bulb yourself. Bottom line? We're doing an addition to our new house and completely redoing the kitchen, and I'm pretty positive there will be a 120V Advantium (possibly the Monogram this time) in that kitchen (along with a 36" gas range and a Gagg combi-steam). We find its flexibility extremely useful.

We put a microwave in our island 5 years ago when we were building the house we live in now. The drawer one wasn't around yet, so we put a standard one in and ordered a special faceplate to go around it. The faceplate cost more than the microwave! Anyway, we love it in that spot. The kids don't have to climb on the counters to use it! One thing, if you have smaller kids, they will push the buttons when you are aren't looking! Mine are older, but little guests sometimes do. Hi! We installed the Sharp MD in May & have been very happy. We did have an maintenance issue with the automatic opening/closing. Sharp sent a technician out to correct it as soon as we reported it. The problem for our Drawer seemed to be in the way a gear was designed. The technician replaced a part & it works fine. The microwave continued to function while the door was operated manually. Our model was manufactured July 2009 (date inside near model & serial #s). I hope this helps. Good luck!

Cabinet size for Sharp 24' drawer microwave???

My island cabinet is currently being made with a 30" cabinet space for an in-drawer microwave. I have decided to purchase the Sharp black stainless steel product but it only comes in a 24" width. I understand that trim kits are available to adjust for 24 - 30 " but not available for this model. I also have found that there is a "flush mount deflector vent" for this model but I don't understand how this works, how mant I would need, or if it would be the answer to my problem. Appreciate any help I can get.

I have a Sharp MW drawer with the tilting panel and have had no issues with it. Works well. Tilting panel is a must for ease of use.

In my previous house I had the Wolf version (all made by Sharp). That one did not have a tilting panel and it was a pain to see and use the panel.

I have one that is about 12 years old. We bought it when there were 2 choices -- smaller or smaller with a trim kit to fit a wider cabinet. I don't expect to have any other kind of microwave in a home I own.

We have one and love it. My 6'5" husband says he never wants anything other than a MW drawer!

It's easy to use and cooks fine.

It doesn't need a turntable b/c of the way it MWs.

It fits a 9" x 13" casserole dish, so no issues with a dinner plate! (The interior is 16" x 16".)

Definitely get the 24" one -- the 30" is really the 24" + trim kit.
