Update for shelving units

I have a fireplace in our new condo that is dated and needs a lift. I have tried everything short of removing them. These shelves have good lighting and I am wondering if removing the shelves or most of them and placing tall green silk plants is an option. I think with the lighting in the evening could be a nice touch. Very different I think but I like different. Dont want same as what has always been. I want a wow factor and i feel it might just work. I am looking at something like the plants that you see on the mantel but a little taller. I truely need help. I do have realistic palm trees in my living room so I am it would blend. I think lol (poor picture, we were moving in but it gives you an idea of the side shelving)

I'd have a finish carpenter remove the arches and just have the side molding go straight up to the crown. Then paint all of the woodwook a bold color. Here are some ideas:

You could paint or wallpaper foam core and install it in the back of the shelving. Look for some colorful objects to put on the shelves.

Google "hutch top" and see if anything turns up that looks like what you're after. You might be able find something that would be similar to your current cabinets but I don't know if you'll be able to find something to match exactly (if that's important to you). If you don't care about the pieces matching exactly, try checking your local Craigslist as well.

Sounds like your set up is something like this (but you’ll have open shelves and no sink). Two should be fine - you can always try mocking it up with some balloons once your cabs + shelves are hung

Take thee and the layout, with all dimensions including height of the ceiling and dimensions of the machines, sink, and what the walls are (foundation? Drywall?) to The Container Store. They will help you design an elfa layout for your needs. I think you’ve missed the winter 30% Off Sale, but their 25% Off Shelving Sale, which includes elfa, comes around in August. In the meantime, take a look at their website, they have some good pictures. I installed elfa across one end of my old laundry room and it was the best thing I did, until I added a Home Depot sink base and utility sink, with cabinets above, on the other side of the machines.

I don’t think removing the shelves and adding tall plants will be attractive. It‘s important to unite that entire wall and consistency and balance are key.

Decorate with things that speak to you, not mass produced decor that you see in staged rooms.

It looks as though you have a lot of personal items, display your favorite things and make it your space... not decorated for show. I think painting the backs of the units can highlight what you already have.

I would remove the art and matching plants from the mantle. Start fresh.

That upholstered chair looks fabulous!!!

Oh my goodness what awesome ideas. Skies the limit. I wamt to keep the white for the most part so it matches the rest of the condo. large baseboards and door frames all whte. I will send you a pic of my kitchen on back of that wall. Its whate and stainless steel. I love the idea of painting the inside walls of the shelves. I added a plant to give you an idea of what I want to incorporate. Photos will be inserted in next post Need to find them

What is the grid behind your picture directly above the fireplace? Is it applied molding? It is not playing well with the arches.
