I'd have a finish carpenter remove the arches and just have the side molding go straight up to the crown. Then paint all of the woodwook a bold color. Here are some ideas:

The other option would be to keep them white but add wallpaper behind the shelving:

You could paint or wallpaper foam core and install it in the back of the shelving. Look for some colorful objects to put on the shelves.

Decorate with things that speak to you, not mass produced decor that you see in staged rooms.

It looks as though you have a lot of personal items, display your favorite things and make it your space... not decorated for show. I think painting the backs of the units can highlight what you already have.

I would remove the art and matching plants from the mantle. Start fresh.

Oh my goodness what awesome ideas. Skies the limit. I wamt to keep the white for the most part so it matches the rest of the condo. large baseboards and door frames all whte. I will send you a pic of my kitchen on back of that wall. Its whate and stainless steel. I love the idea of painting the inside walls of the shelves. What is the grid behind your picture directly above the fireplace? Is it applied molding? It is not playing well with the arches.

YyesYes, it looks like it is molding i have ni idea if it was put in after because the wood looks newer i think i like that more than the arches ore modern

We actually think the built-ins look really lovely. We might suggest painting the cabinets and mantle all one color. Does a specific color call to you? Here you see we used a nice blue for our clients built-ins.

Hi RedRyder as you requested picttures to show the great room this fireplace is in. Contains the three areas sharing fireplace as the feature wall. It is a 1200 sq unit will plan to retire in. Keep in mind we are in middle of renovations and I am moving stuff around every day.

I still think keeping the units one color is better than a black wall on the back and the rest is white. Just my opinion.

Its a tough one. There are a few pieces that I love and cant part but they don't really fit in. Like a tan automan. I agree with you no sense adding more to that fireplace. Less is better rule can apply.
