Is this normal for leather?

I bought a very nice leather recliner chair from Room and Board made by American leather.

The leather seat has a rumpled look where you sit. it is a foam cushion, not down. my husband uses rhe chair and is not a large person. Are these depressions normal?

Also, the chair makes a loud noise as it glides back and forth (as if the leather is rubbing).

It is motorized. I tried their recommended cleaner.

I would expect some leathers to show those depressions after being used for a while, but I wouldn't be happy with it on a brand new chair.

We have 2 American Leather recliners we have been using for about 8 months and the seats show no dimples. Ours were custom ordered through an interior design center, so I don't know if we got a different leather quality. Ours are in a media room, so they do not get used every day, because we also have a Bracci reclining sofa too, but DH has sat on one of the chairs for hours at a time watching movies. No seat dimples on that one. We got the manual version and there are no leather rubbing noises when reclining.

We have the same chair (and color) but it is not motorized. It is a very comfortable recliner. We have had it for over a year but not daily use and we have a very minor seat depression but not nearly as much as your picture. The back can get worse since it is down but we just fluff it up and it still looks near new. Leather will do that. We have no noise coming from our recliner.

Our Crate and Barrel sofa in leather is an entirely different story. It looked very rumbled the first week we owned it. The leather is much thinner than the R&B chair and the overall quality is not good. Big mistake buying the C&B sofa.

I think it is, in fact [Majestic Beauty] = 'Montic', which I have seen in person many times - do a web search and you can get multiple photographs also. Stated to be from Eriobotrya deflexa X Raphiolepis indica but the originator said At the time of my discovery, I found it as a chance seedling growing in a bed of Raphiolepis indica 'Enchantress', where it was distinguished from all other Raphiolepis plants in the bed by the relatively great size of its branches and foliage. Brand New Leather furniture scratched

Talked to the manager about returning it and he says it is scratched, damaged and he does not want it back. I was fairly rude about it which is additional aggravation. Not sure I will get anywhere with the store or manager, I guess I will contact the furniture manufacture. Before I get to far - it is not normal for leather furniture to scratch is it? Leather is medium to dark brown and the scratches or scuffs are very light brown in color.

There are all different qualities and finishes of suede, a natural material that will wear where you use it. I'd love it on a jacket. I love, love, love leather on chaps and bridles and tack, but know this: suede on chaps wears smooth wherever it is used (where you sit on the horse) . On chaps it looks fine, but on a couch....I wouldn't like that. If this is a couch that gets used, I wouldn't do it, based on a lifelong interaction with suede and leather, though admittedly, I haven't had it on a sofa. Maybe someone else has.

I actually did this two years ago. This was December 2016 according to the review. I posted a lot of photos of it, and put extensive instructions based on my experience. Am I happy? Heck yeah!!!!!! My thirty year old sofa still looks great two years later, even though it’s the dog’s favorite napping place (because he can look out the window and see when we are walking home from town) and the cats sleep on it, too. Scratch marks, as shown, but that’s just normal with leather and pets, and I could touch them up if I weren’t so lazy. Besides, I like it looking a wee bit worn. Two warnings. The stuff that removes the old finish is the worst smell EVER. I honestly though we might have brain damage from it. If you have a bird or small kids, try to do it in the garage, but the smell may still get in the house. And second, make sure you really get in all the cracks and crannies. When someone sits on a sofa, the cushions change shape under the weight and will expose areas you missed. The little cotton wand or swab that comes with the dye looks ridiculous, it my dad did leatherwork. They are perfect for the task, lint free, and actually cover a lot of territory quickly, and prevent you from being overly enthusiastic and using too much dye. You can order extras cheap. And do clean and vacuum. And de-crumb it before dyeing. We also sprang for newer taller sofa feet to try to help with the 80’s appearance. Going light to dark worked fine. I don’t know if it would work to go dark to light. And rub it down with Leather Honey once in a while to keep it supple.

Gailan, do you remember what leather you used.? I wonder if a different leather would help.

I've decided to return the chair thanks to Room and Board's generous return policy (mostly because of the squeaking.)

I might order it again or maybe try the Issac chair with the down cushion which at least will be rumpled looking over a larger area (not as defined)

Ours is the Lecco in Camel color. I do appreciate R&Bs great return policies and glad that worked out at least. I have so say I would be very disappointed if our chair looked like that and I would definately would have returned it too. I imagine the down cushion may give you more issues though.

Thanks, I had the Urbino which seems like a softer leather than the Lecco. Maybe I will reorder in Lecco.
