Comments (10)You definitely need to think through Christmas! I have my tree where I thought I would put it when we built. It may stay there but it won't be convenient for Christmas morning . . . presents will have to be walked around the sofa. No big deal because the kids presents from Santa are always by the fireplace but the adult presents and any presents to kids not from Santa go under the tree. The one thing I do LOVE about where my tree is now is it is in our family room, so I can see it from part of the kitchen, but we also have a direct sight line from the front door thru to the family room so you can see the lit up Christmas tree from outside :) I love seeing trees through windows but I have never had a house where you can see the tree and it can be enjoyed on a daily basis (i.e., not in living room or dining room). As far as lights go, no idea, but I don't see why you can't put outlets in an attic - you put light switches there. We considered doing a switch for the Christmas tree plug but I found I like the remote control thing better. Bought one years ago at WalMart and I keep the remote in the kitchen and can turn on the tree from anywhere on the first floor. . ....See MoreRecirculation loop....was it unnecessary?
Comments (11)OK, so here's a question... We also had a recirc loop installed primarily for the washer as it's a front load and on the opposite end of the house from the tankless gas hot water heater. We were informed that the water cycle in the washer wouldn't run long enough to trigger the water heater + the distance between the two would be prohibitive of the hot water even if triggered making it to the washer in any great quantity. So 1st 1.5 months everything is great--hot water in 4 seconds or less to any tap in the house!! Then the gas man came & we had used over 200 gallons of LP!?!?! I don't wash clothes or run hot water that often!! The only appliances that are gas are the rangetop, the fireplace (that we never use) and the hot water heater. Mom has the same appliances running off LP gas & uses that amount in 6 months but she doesn't have the recirc loop. Is it possible that having the recirc loop used that much extra LP? (We put it on a timer to test to see, but we haven't seen the gas man back yet.)...See MoreVictorious! 9 outlets! New plumbing, switches & no linoleum!
Comments (4)ALL HAIL SIR OVERLORD OF PLUMBING-ELECTRIC-AND-HIDEOUS-FLOOR!!!! We bow to your strength and persistence! We faint in the face of your steadfast resolve to keep the water running! We cheer your galantry (really, prepping vs pulling up the floor: You definitely gave her the sweet end of that deal!)! Comments (25)This must be regional, because here, all of the lighting circuits are sepatate from the outlet circuits. And are 14 gauge. The trucks are full of both 12 and 14. You wouldn’t have any electrician run a lighting circuit from an 12 gauge outlet circuit. And no inspector would approve a 20 amp kitchen circuit supplying any lighting circuit. It wouldn’t pass the overcurrent requirement. They'd grab from one of the 15 amp lighting circuits. My 70’s house is run that way, as is 90% of any of the houses from then up. Older than that, or with DIY involvement, all bets are off. Its much more organized, predictable, and better design, than higgeldy piggeldy half the house’s outlets and 1/4 of the lights are out....See Morebusymom04
